-9070: Currently more expensive than the 5070
-"Futureproofing": Nvidia gpus in general have been aging better than Radeon regardless of vram or marginal differences in raw performance

The control the RGB you need Armoury Crate which will install like 10 useless services for hardware you may not even have and the software itself is a clusterfuck so I cannot recommend it. Aura Sync still exists as independent installer but comes with the same issues where you'd have to custom install only the services you need and I cannot tell if the latest aura sync independent version supports the newest cards. You should be able to control it via OpenRGB or a similar tool but check the supported device list. The software for GPU control GPU Tweak III is "OK" given how bad Asus Software usually is though you may be able to control it with MSI afterburner as well.

Is fancontrol still recommended to monitor fans and such? Do I even need to do that? If I know the temps through other monitors and have set a curve already what is it doing exactly except letting me look at a number? But I feel kind of nervous not knowing if they are running at the right speeds. I'm not noticing any undue noise though so if I can avoid having another programming running I really don't need I'd like to avoid it.

Looking to get a decent 1440p monitor and primarily one with good visual fidelity. I dislike the degradation problems of oled and their exorbitant price tags so that seems to really only leave va panel monitors with local dimming but i can't figure out if there are any actually worth getting or not.

>KTC M27T6 (miniLED)
Why is the KTC M27T6 recommended over the aoc q27g40xmn? My main worry with getting a va panel is black smear and vrr flicker, which from tech reviews doing in depth testing on each of these monitors, the aoc appears to have far far less black smear then the KTC and also good vrr flicker.

And as a general question, i've been using decent or worse 1080p ips or tn monitors all my life basically so how bad are va panels really for competitive fps or fast paced games? Every review or discussion i find around va panel monitors always says the same truism about them that they're good for content consumption or slow paced single player games and NOT anything competitive but they never quantify it in any meaningful way. So is it like "technically the problem's there but on a good panel you probably won't notice" or is it "literally unplayable no matter what"?

And there are some that I've never heard of so I have no idea. I looked at the SETA A2 and it doesn't look amazing and it's not exactly cheap either. Do you really need that many drive bays?

Yea i know that there was issues with early manufactured models but i feel it's unlikely i'll get one of those now but even if i did i've no problem just returning it till i get a non-defective one. So just assuming i get a good loto pick, it is just better then the ktc right?

>newer "fast VA" or other branding of these panels has reduced the black smear, but it's still there
>it exists
This is kinda my point, i'm aware it's still a thing but like what is the quality of the experience? Can you quantify it? I don't play too many competitive games anymore but on rare occasion i still do and since I've never owned a va monitor i'm trying to figure out how dramatically it effects the experience of using it, like on a scale of 'totally unnoticeable' to 'so blatant the monitor sucks to use'. If it's minor and ignorable/hard to notice for the most part then i think i'd be fine with it but all anyone ever seems to say is that it's there rather then to what degree it presents during use.

Ah I have the same issue with my Meshify C, I had to remove a front fan to fit my new GPU, which is obviously not good for cooling, and the cooling wasn't amazing to begin with. The Meshify 3 can fit 350mm cards which is only slightly longer than the 680x (but it might be enough), but all the other cases in the ATX and dual chamber sections of the OP can fit 375mm, many of them are 400mm or even 450mm.

I would suggest a mac mini and buy a usb 4 nvme (maiwo brand is cheap), and nvme (if you need the storage).
the igpu will be a lot weaker (by 2x), but you got the student discount.
If you want to run windows games, crossover runs fine, it's not free but if you did pay, you will keep it forever but you wont get updates.
But note that you can't run Asahi linux on apple m4, probably not for a couple of years.
And if you intend on taking the laptop to school, you should get applecare for it.
on amazon, the macbook air is pretty cheap right now. It would make a lot of sense if you don't have a monitor, since the cost of the monitor + keyboard + mouse does add up to the same price (what doesn't add up, is the ram and ssd space, but it doesn't matter much if you use external storage, and technically you could try to set up a network storage thing, but I expect it to be painful).
If you insist on a PC, I would suggest splurging on a 5060 or 9060 8gb (it will hold up significantly longer). And if you dual boot with linux, you should just buy 2 nvmes, it's better to keep them on separate drives.

You have to test it to judge it for yourself. If your system can pump above 120Hz, I don't think it'll be that big of a deal.
The smearing gets worse as the refresh rate is lower.
Most 165~180Hz VA monitors are probably using a panel that's similar to this one.

Unfortunately i've found out that the local dimming setting for the aoc completely locks brightness at max with no ability to control it for some bizarre reason which has made me loose almost all desire to get it. I don't know why tf they thought that was a good idea when the previous version didn't do that. There's no way i'd want to run it at max brightness all the time and like 90% of the appeal is it's better blacks through dimming so I guess i'm just back to waiting for something better to come around.

So I just built a brand new PC but I asked LLM to suggest me a good CPU and it said Ryzen 5 7600 so I bought it, but after that I realized that the cutoff date of all public LLMs is 2024 so it couldn't have known about the 9xxx series. Anyways apparently I've bought an old CPU, just how bad did I do?
Would the Ryzen 5 9600 been better choice in 2025? I checked and the 9600 is $100 more and although it's the newest generation I can't find much praise for it over the 7600. Sure it's a bit faster but not THAT much faster. I'm trying to justify my horrible fuck up. I don't game much, I am dicking with Diablo 4 but only to admire some of the graphics, I just wanted to have a desktop x86 (been a laptop and macfag for like 20 years) with the comfort to play whatever if I wanted to.

Yeah, external storage. That's when you want to use USB 3.0. Oh, and I guess making video with a webcam, you want USB 3.0 or maybe USB4. I forgot about that. Basically large data transfers requires USB 3.0+.
Keyboards, mouse, DACs, game controllers, those can run on a USB 2.0.

the right answer is always a quality line-interactive UPS but good ones are not cheap and cheap ones are not good.

quality old APC units over 1000va with long runtimes can be found used and the battery replaced for about what you might pay for a shitty new unit

and they all need to have the battery replaced at some point. i have 5 goddamn APC UPSs and i have to test the batteries every year, they last 2-3 years at best.

I was thinking one outflow for the back? I'm also confused, because it's suggested to put the AIO in front, because the RAM might not fit with it on the top. What's the best way to setup air flow in such case? Is the AIO + 3 from case enought? One inflow, one outlofw? Front/top?

I think gaming laptops are garbage and would never go back to buying them. For 500€ you won't get anything good. In fact they'll be really bad, I doubt they'll be able to even do what you wanted playing videos without stuttering and browsing.

Hi /g/
My HS8145V router connected to PON is acting strangely. the signal is there (-25 dBm rx, 2.5 dBm tx) and the internet is working, but over time it starts degrading, losing connection, even though the signal strength is the same.
what's astonishing is that when i power cycle the router (literally plug it out, wait a minute, then plug it back in) then the performance is restored for a short period of time. what's the problem here?

It should last you a really long time as long as you don't care about playing on low/medium settings for newer stuff. The i7 8700 is slow by today's standards but it's still solid enough to just play the games at a decent frame rate. Just upgrade when/if you want to start playing more games, don't do it just for the dopamine of getting a new thing.

Check the product details next time, it discloses the model name.
First unit is meant to be sold in the UK,
The second in EU,
And the last one is pacakged for North America (NA).
The hardware shouldn't matter, and you'll get the needed cables. Get the EU one (2nd link) if you want to play it safe.
The NA one isn't available in your region.
The PSU itself should be the same.

If you're mostly buying it for games you may want to look at the 9700X instead, if they're cheaper. Seems alright though, especially if you're using it for productivity or just prefer Intel. The Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Elite AX has a better VRM, but you may not care about that especially if you don't overclock or if it's more expensive than that ASUS board.

Try for a 4K monitor, more RAM if you can swing it, but you can also waitfag for those.
You can find some savings on the PSU and by air cooling it.

Considering switching monitor to ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQDMG instead of spending the extra money on 5070 TI. Yeah, I wanted to go for 64GB, but I always overthink and now RAM is x2,5 what is was a month ago.

>You can find some savings on the PSU and by air cooling it.
I went for the 1000W as it supposedly to run nice and quiet in that build.

Anyway, now I'm searching for different case as I've noticed that those P14 Pro Fans are much better for the same price. So I'd have to change AIO for Arctic as well. What do you thing about switching cooling from Corsair to Arctic?

Be aware that the P14 Pro fans run loud past 1200 RPM or so, but they don't need to run that fast on a daily system.
The Liquid Freezer AIO isn't the best for Ryzen CPUs. LF3's cold plate + mounting solution isn't that great.

Thanks. Solid answer. So, I'll stick with Corsair. Have their keyboard/mouse, so that's always something.

Anyway, should I buy some thermal paste, I've read that it comes pre-applied on the Corsair AIO. However, it came to my attention that there is that phase change pad Honeywell PTM7950, which is supposed to last up to 1000 hours under 150° C and has great properties or the stock solutions is enough? I prefer to optimize as much as I can as I like low temperatures and low RPMs.

Stock thermal paste should be good enough, but PTM7950 basically doesn't need reapplication after 5~8 years.
You're more likely to consider replacing the AIO by year 5~6.
