-9070: Currently more expensive than the 5070
-"Futureproofing": Nvidia gpus in general have been aging better than Radeon regardless of vram or marginal differences in raw performance

Man, my Gigabyte 5080 can't be propped up using the support bracket or else it will make an ear piercing rattling noise somehow even though the fans are NOT blocked by the bracket.
Is leaving the card without sag support ok?

Use some other support, like a stand.
The card needs anti-sag support if Gigabyte included one with the card.

Stupid question: If I take my old SSD out of my old PC and put it in my new PC (without uninstalling anything from the old SSD) as a secondary drive, as long as I load from my primary (new) drive I'll have no problems booting into Windows so I can format the old drive directly from my new PC right? Like I don't have to "prep" the drive first?

I’m weighing up building a PC for the express purpose of replacing living room consoles - thinking I’ll just run Bazzite on it for a console-like experience.
The more I research, the more I’m beginning to think this might be a fools errand? It seems ridiculously expensive to build a device capable of 4K gaming at 60fps (60Hz 4K television), if I want to be able to play new releases for more than a year or so from now. At least, buying a GPU capable of this and fitting it in a living-room appropriate form factor. Am I right on this, or am I missing some crucial detail?

Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my Ryzen 5 3600, budget ~$200-250 (the equivalent in my europoor currency) though I don't mind going a tier up IF it makes economical sense. Also going to stay on AM4.

I think my choices are either 5800X+cooler (which one?) or 5800XT, but I can't get a clear consensus if the Wraith Prism is good enough for the CPU. The XT would be $50 extra.

Any help?

ASUS generally orders good PSUs and cables.

consider that amd is releasing refreshed cpus q1
you may want a watercooler because 16 core cpu running full workloads eat up 200+ watts, and water cooler can be quieter and allow higher perf thanks to less throttling
you should get 5070 ti
youre spending 2-3 more on the mobo for the nvme lanes right? then buying 2tb pcie 4 nvme makes 0 sense. you should be owning a 4tb pcie 5 nvme since you want to move files around
Id rec 65gb ddr5 but prices are insane so what can you do.
850w psu would be enough, you usually buy 1k for 5090 builds and you're unlikely to max out both cpu + gpu at same time.

I dont understand the case, consider fractal meshify 3 xl for high airflow.

Nvidia generally builds things better with an expectation of a decent long life. Part of the reason Nvidia is strict with power and voltage limits, of course they will find a way to make the LM stay put.

Laptops in general are built like garbage
LM sounds good until you realize they are only on the hook for the laptop for a year or two max and thus they are built as such.

For just LLM's the AMD AI max 385 is fine, it's also not very special, but the recent ram price spike did not affect the framework PC.
Downsides:
-soldered ram
-if you get the 32gb $800 mainboard you still need to buy a NVME, case, PSU, and 120mm fan
-Nvidia is much better for image generation, even at the low end, including AI video as well.
-only 2 nvme slots (but the 4x pcie slot can be turned into an nvme slot)
-a 4x slot which can't fit a GPU without a special case + 4x to 16x adapter
-the APU is similar to a 4060, double the 1660S.
-it's perf per watt is very good, it belongs in a laptop/handheld like GPD win 5 ($2000).
-the 5070 is better than the 385 in every way including AI
>b-but the 5070 is only 12gb! that's nothing!
for RP I think there are plenty of models that would fit 12gb, and you could push it to 16gb with offloading and it would still run about the same speed as the 385 (the 5070 is 3x faster in token speed). But I will admit, it's a tradeoff. I could also suggest the 9060 XT 16gb or the 5060 TI 16gb, but you get what you paid for (slightly cheaper than the 5070/9070, slightly lower FPS, but more vram).
-AI is only a bit faster than running it on a CPU, the 5060 TI 16gb would run AI noticeably faster. People should get the 64gb or higher because of MoE models, BUT the MoE is only as good as the experts, I like big models (but you will never compete with free cloud models unless you drop $3000 for 48gb, which won't pay itself off unless you spend hundreds of hours on the AI every month, OpenRouter prices are so cheap for millions of tokens, the only way for the price to rack up is if you have a huge history, since the whole history is sent for every reply, but personally I think AI's become dumb after a few thousand tokens for RP, but I use dumb free cloud models).

Statistically speaking most people use nvidia GPU's on steam, and there is still nothing that AMD offers that is unique.
Other than steam OS, you can't install steam OS on a PC with a nvidia GPU (you don't want steam OS unless you just want to plug your PC to your TV and control it with a controller, I think?), AMD still has issues with linux and treats linux gaming as a 2nd tier to windows just like nvidia (you should not expect linux to have Adrenalin or other fancy driver features, but not like linux can even run popular multiplayer games that have DRM/anticheat).
The 9070 XT does run faster than the 5070 TI in some games however, but on some games the 5070 TI runs fast.

I also think its gonna get cancelled, 3gb modules will be way too valuable for the RTX Pro blackwell line up to sell them in GTX series, at best it'll be a paper launch which is why i think people are looking to upgrade, what does this mean though is that it may take until 2028 for production to match the new demand so everything from UDNA, to series 60 to new gen consoles is being speculated to be pushed a year further down the line and if anything it releases in 2027 and the shortage has not been solved you'll face crypto tier level of prices so people are just wanting to play it safe and upgrade now

New PC, Boot LED is on, all fans spinning but no video output on both GPU and motherboard

GPU: 9070xt, CPU: 7800x3d. My motherboard (MSI B650 Tomahawk) consistently shows the green boot LED but there's no video output on either the GPU or the motherboard. My keyboard works on both the front panel and the motherboard. The GPU fans aren't spinning but I read that that's normal on this GPU since it's not getting hot.

I tried straight HDMI on all ports (incl. on the motherboard) on 2 different monitors & my TV (with power cycling, waiting, etc.) as well as HDMI to DVI and Display Port to HDMI adapters. I don't have any monitors with display ports since they're all quite old. Could this be the issue?

seems like a reasonably well balanced build where you can upgrade pretty much everything, upgrading the gpu is the low hanging fruit, but you might need a bulkier PSU for the more high end GPU's, upping the ram to 32GB can also be a decent upgrade depending on what you're doing, there's also some room to upgrade the CPU. Pretty sure LG has released a 4th gen WOLED, and Samsung probably has a newer QD OLED. Whether they're worth the extra price, I don't know, but that's where you should start your research. What else?

You'll have to make compromises somewhere. Also you need to be aggressive looking for deals. pcpartpicker doesn't update shit in real time. Check every possible place you can buy stuff, some places like best buy will price match almost anywhere. I got my cpu price matched from microcenter. Watch for black friday deals to start in a week or two. You'll have a better chance at getting cheaper parts then.
