Chair technology
What chair is everyone using? I was looking at secretlab chairs but apparently they're extremely firm, I'm looking for something more comfortable. Maybe Razer Enki or Corsair TC500. I'm not going to by some sweaty wagie's used herman miller too, don't even suggest it.

I got a Libernovo Omni about 2 months ago and it has been great.

Probably a bit beyond your budget though OP.

chair technology is not complicated, just get one with adjudtable arm and headrest. the armrest should also be soft, made of some gel, those are the best. It should be able to go into a semi lying position for comfy foot on table movie watching sessions. The backrest should not be solid like in your picture, get one which is a net. You are gonna thank me in summer. Also fuck leather, get a fabric one. It is still gonna look good in 10 years.

Meh, it's the first chair I've owned that actually moves the headrest dynamically as I lean back.

A decent office chair, you braindead consumer cattle. Doesn't have to be Herman Miller.

I hate buying work chairs. It's almost impossible to test it without sitting the whole day on one. Even the expensive ones. I had aeron in one office. And for me, it was just all right. Same as noname chairs for $200. Embody was way better. Now I just buy some midrange chair that looks kinda good. With a net back and a wide seat because I like to sit with my legs crossed on a chair.

has anyone tried to put a car chair on a standard swiveling chair stand? There's a lot of car waste out there, with chairs that cost thousands to manufacture, but now are destined to landfill.

Things a good chair should have,

good cushions, padding, comfort. Its harder to get then it seems.
foot rest that rises in air, and lowers. Might be a personal choice.
massager for butt/back, kind of an extra
cup holder, an extra
a good price (good luck, lol)
other stuff? What things do you want?

Mine sorta does most of that

It's comfy
Has an included (separate) footrest with 2 levels (feet flat or legs elevated) and adjustable height
A back stretch function (not quite a massage, but close)
No cup holder and the price isn't exactly cheap, but otherwise it fits the bill.

secret lab chairs fucking suck. do not buy

The trick to getting chairs is to look for used office stores near you. There's businesses going under constantly, and resale companies will buy their stuff wholesale at auction, clean it up, and flip it. You can look for auctions, but unless you're buying bulk (IE furnishing an entire office), it's largely not worth your time to spend time bidding on stuff. You can sometimes find surplus stuff on your state's website, but most of that is abused garbage that's falling apart in my experience.

It's much easier to walk into a used store and plop your ass in a few chairs. Try reclining, rolling around, adjusting the armrests, the lumbar support, and so on. Bring a book or something and once you find a couple that you like, sit in them for 20 or so minutes.

As long as you're clean and not dressed like trailer trash or someone from whatever the nearby projects are, the staff aren't going to give a shit. If you're unsure and have other places to look at, ask if you can put down a small deposit to reserve something for a few days. Chains or more corporate type locations may not allow that, but any small place will be happy to take 40 bucks to hold a chair for a couple of days. Worst case you no-show and they pocket the cash off the books tax-free. Best case they have a high likelihood of a sale.

I've bought 2 Herman Miller Aerons, a Mira, a Mira 2, and 2 Steelcase Thinks this way. The most expensive were the Aerons, probably because of their almost memelike cult status, but I don't think I paid more than 350 for any of the others, and they were all fully decked out.

What's the downside of doing pic related?

I have a fancy mesh office chair and it just doesn't really cut it for me, I still sometimes get tailbone pain or feel it in my back after an hour or so
