Best laptops
What are the best modern laptops for a poorfag to buy right now (new, not used)? I run GNU/Linux on my desktop, but I wouldn't necessarily mind macOS if their laptops are actually good. I would be willing to accept Windows too, but that's the last resort.
>budget
Certainly no more 1250 USD at the absolute maximum, preferably under 1000 USD, further preferably under 750 USD.

Why?

Chrome OS is an excellent gentoo fork. I suggest a galaxy chromebook plus with google ai. you will find its quality to be worthy of its price, sire.

Isn't that just an Apple shill thread?
>>107155309
I mean why buy used if I probably afford a new one? I don't actually really know how much laptops cost in general at all, but I assumed that 1000 USD is a reasonable price for a new one
>>107155324
I don't want a chromebook

Would you refuse an used ferrari because it's used and go for a brand new fiat instead?
Anonymous No.107155481 [Report] >>107155501
>>107155372
Well I don't want a ferrari at all, so I would certainly refuse it either way except if I want to sell it or something. What do you want to suggest? A ThinkPad?

Depends on what you want to do. You don't get a tesla if you want to haul freight and you don't get a modern hilux if you want to go 'round corners. Same for tech, your use will determine the specs you need. Just asking for a "good laptop" can mean anything.

It is mostly for programming and on some rare occasions sshing into a server. I do some non-programming text editing sometimes. I've been wanting to get into some creative hobby one day too for a long time, but I haven't even really decided on which one

Just buy an used ThinkPad

You have the lowest of requirements.

Well I understand but I don't actually want the cheapest laptop on the market

Anything with a good screen and at least 16gb of ram will do. I'd go with a MacBook air or some OLED windows machine (stay away from 1080p). Think about how portable you want it to be as well.

Acer swift or Asus zenbooks. I bought my mom a zenbook. It's a cool thin and light for most daily tasks.

So am I supposed to use Windows on those laptops or would it make sense to install GNU/Linux on them

Find one that has two M.2 slots if possible and dual boot. Odds are there will be something every now and then you'll need to do in Windows, but you can stay in Linux most of the time.

Buy used, anything new right now is slop

I'd run it on linux full time. Haven't had a reason to dual boot since the gaming got better. There's nothing shameful in using windows full time as well.

Framework
Anonymous No.107156119 [Report]
>>107155270 (OP)
framework 13 with whatever specs you want, it's not even that much more expensive over competing laptops and you get to upgrade it for much cheaper down the line
you sound too poor for framework 16

>if their laptops are actually good
Their laptops are actually good. Just buy a $750 macbook air from costco and be done with it.
If not, just get a framework and call it a day.

Stay away from Oled, it's mostly a meme especially if you want to do programming due to poor text rendering and burn in is still an issue.
You could have a look at the L14 should 750ish on black friday

do normies buying laptops even care about this shit?
Anonymous No.107157384 [Report]
>>107157353
I heard quite a few complain because normies won't do backups too and if they find out the SSD is soldered to the board and their data permanently lost because the SSD is grilled because muh fanless design

No.
Anonymous No.107157414 [Report] >>107157422

No, they either buy cloud storage or just buy a new laptop. Normies typically just throw more money at a problem until theyre satisfied
