I stopped using freetube after the latest kikery from google. It just wasn't really working anymore. Similar problems with yt-dlp, must upgrade it all the time otherwise it doesn't work.

Just use YouTube Premium. Not only do I not have any ads, it also means the video plays uninterrupted in the background, even when opening another app on my phone.

Downloading YouTube videos also has never been easier.

my youtube client is 10 times smaller and has gui which can show avatars and thumbnails like any other functional youtube clients, unlike tui

When I use a browser proxy I'm usually able to watch 3/4 videos before "we've changed some things due to your lack of loggin in" which then blocks me from watching age gated content. I just get a new node connection after that. It really does fuck over playlist watching or music listening, my boyfriend gets pissed when we're watching a video and that happens and interrupts it (which is funny because he doesn't have adblocks enabled on his iphone or roku, lol)
Honestly, I told myself if I'm unable to watch YT using blockers or without scanning my gov ID, I'm going cold turkey.
HOWEVER I also recently learned about yt-dlp, so perhaps there's one option left.
