use case? Doesn't do anything that a config-management system doesn't do, and if you aren't a sysadmin managing lots of systems you don't need one in the first place

Usecase for atomic distros? Like, genuinely.

Stability. Upgrade broke something? Just roll back. And I imagine it's also much, much more secure against malware if it can't write anything to the root filesystem.

Pretty much. The difference being you will get updates at tumbleweeds rolling pace.

The containerised aapproach is incredible. Yeah, you could configure a normal system to function similarly but someone has already done that for you. A great workstation option.

pic related fedora has both a 'regular' (~6 month releases) and a rolling (rawhide) version of their atomic desktop.you can also switch between the different branches if you wanna change desktops. (i literally did this 1h ago i was on the gnome version yesterday) and you get 5 different desktop choices

fedora have been doing atomic since 2015 (Fedora Atomic Host (Project Atomic)) and the more focused atomic desktop (silverblue) since 2018. IMO theyre a better choice for atomic desktop unless you're really into SUSE.

Waiit, you can use that branch on the atomic spins? So I could install a ublue spin and switch it to rolling?

The thing about Rawhide is it is meant for testing, not for daily driving, more like Debian with its testing repo. This is how some bugs have been found and fixed before reaching beta and stable releases. Fedora don't have the intention of becoming rolling release.
Tumbleweed has more testing and is meant to be used as a daily driver, it has the intention of covering both stable and rolling release models.
Anonymous No.107160719 [Report]
>>107160709
That's what I figured. Nothing wrong with fedora's point releases but I much prefer a continous update stream.
Anonymous No.107160749 [Report]
>>107160709
Branched gets more updates than Fedora's regular releases, but a lot less than Rawhide

>>107160684
those are fedora branches where they give you a new system iamge every day or so

ublue are their own branches and i think they all use much older images for example bluefin are on linux 6.16.8 and fedora 42 where's regular/atomic fedora are on 6.17.7 and fedora 43.

>>107160709
i think the idea with rawhide is you run it in a container (toolbx, a podman wrapper that ships with fedora). you can set it up in any fedora install with 1 command and run the newest packages while keeping a clean atomic base system.

nothing personnel, $USER

It's 2025, almost 2026 and we just don't have the ability to put an ISO on a usb stick. I tried to install this twice and it didn't fucking work. I followed the instructions.
Anonymous No.107161308 [Report]
The best part about linux is that you can customize and experiment. Wanting to "solve" it will end up in a centralized solution that no one likes equally, like Windows or IOS. Stop trying to make linux something it isn't.

CachyOS is the Clear Linux successor, except it also has a lot of gaming optimisations to help people move over from Windows if they're into that too. It has widespread appeal, is fast and stable for everyone regardless of what they use their PC for, and it's sticking around for a very long time.

All of the "optimisation" is kernel tweaks exclusively for handhelds. Have you actually inspected the source code for their tweaks?
The only other stuff is a few goomer drivers pre-installed like xone, but any retard can just install drivers.
