I contemplating on giving Graphene OS a try. Can a veteran please give me a brief summary on important things I should be aware of?

It just works. There's a few things that didn't work for me out of the box, namely texting, but I changed some setting and it worked. I forget which one. I set up my 7a like a year ago now. It's ez pz to set up dw about it.
The real thing to worry about is Googles shitty hardware. Had to replace the battery recently and I cut the volume/power cable while doing it. Also did you know Google created their very own Torx variant for their phones? I didn't!

If you consider grapheneos as one part of your privacy strategy and chose apps and services wisely with regard to grapheneos compatibility and privacy in mind, it's unbeatable.
