i'm fucking onto Microjeet and their tricks.

Just installed older build of Windows 10 and compared to the latest build everything works faster, including browser. Youtube videos also show less hiccups. interesting observation!

the build in question
> 19044.1288

they changed something recently, during the last year. i think they are intentionally making the user experience worse but i can't prove exactly what they have changed. it could also be that they're using AI hallucinated code for windows 10 as well.

people have also reported the old nvidias registry fix for MPO doesn't work anymore, that's DirectX/rendering related. Which could explain several issues both AMD and Nvidia users are reporting, AMD users have issues with hardware acceleration, black screens and random flickering/artifacting. Windows' DirectX plays a role when it comes to compiling the windows so this could be something...

Ah, so they ARE using DX for rendering. How interesting.
I wonder if it's just the window manager, if that's the case, we now have the reason the alternatives drom back in the day were banned.

without directx api nothing in windows would work. i think it's specifically direct3d that's used to render the desktop graphics. i'm not expert on low level graphics programming so dunno how exactly the process goes from the driver call to a fully constructed image on the screen.

windows has several components that's used when it comes to actual windows on your desktop, and any of them could be causing issues for people.
>Desktop Window Manager (DWM)
>Compositing manager
>Graphics Device Interface (GDI)
then there are misc components for things such as detecting window hanging, if your gpu driver crashes it can be because of this one.
here's the components https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Microsoft_Windows_components#Core_components

Also to make it clear, there is definitely incompetence on amd and nvidias end too.

you can google amd (or nvidia) flickering/black screen/artifacting, you will get hundreds of hits all around. some fixed their issues with disabling hw acceleration, disabling VRR technology, enabling VRR technology, some ran the MPO fix... seeing these reports and actually experiencing said issues firsthand inspired me to start looking in to this. i'm currently running tests with fresh windows install before and after updating and doing this with all GPU drivers from current year, always from a fresh offline installation of windows, disabling windows update and driver fetching before doing anything.
