is laptop tech going backwards?

You don't need any of the shit they removed and you're not cool for pretending otherwise.

Horay, I can finally buy a laptop that will never leave my desk

No because the ability to carry them and be thin is what the people actually want, and not even just normies

>remove useful features for enthusiasts because catering to room temperature iq retards is more profitable
same as everything else, yes
Anonymous No.107183912 [Report]
Seems like one of those things people act like they would like because they're "tech enthusiast" identities rather than people who actually like and use computers.
Why would I ever want to open my laptop like that? If I'm working on the inside, it's off and I've flipped it over. I don't care if I have to undo a few screws. I'd rather that than have to add another hinge i.e. an easily breakable part.
Disk drives: who cares? What can you do with a disk that you can't do on flash?
A little LCD screen: I already have a big screen right there.
Aesthetically it's nice enough, but it's a laptop rather than a fashion accessory. Fashion accessory is the role it fills in identity building for these people.

I had a $3000~ Toughbook with a dock and I really wish AMD/TI's Dockport initiative took off. Laptops should have universal docks. Not just stupid USB hubs.

>expensive windows laptop
>dogshit trackpad
why is apple the only company that actually puts effort into making nice to use trackpads?

Better question yet. Why can't we get nice trackpads with physical left, right, and middle buttons?

Imagine and old style thinkpad keyboard on a 15 inch laptop with that kind of trackpad that still had buttons.

It's moving forwards, just in a super anti-consumer way. I saw something about how Lenovo Yoga laptops have a tiny pin between the power button and the connector that's designed to fail, and can't be replaced. Build quality is intentionally going down to force upgrades. In that respect, the tech (of purposely making your product break without violating some law) is advancing.
Even Apple are complaining about people hanging onto M1 laptops and not having a reason to buy the latest and greatest.

>ability to carry them
Actively hindered by large screen sizes. They haven't even got significantly lighter either.
>and be thin
Oh, shit, oh fuck, this brand spanking new 19'' laptop is as thin as your dick, so fucking portable you can put it on your back pocket and forget about it.

What do you mean by large screen sizes? People usually buy 14 inches or less
Anonymous No.107186151 [Report]
Seems like laptops vary too much in size for it ever to be practical to buy and swap parts the way you would desktop

can someone explain this meme to me? is it just a big inside joke like when people say finland doesn't exist, or is it more of a collective hallucination?

1,2 and 3 finger tap or more convenient though.
separate buttons are nice for more accuracy, but at that point get a mouse/trackball.

I would rather carry a wired mouse around in a fucking fanny pack than use these dog shit trackpads they have today

I dunno, at least with the existence of this it takes me back to the era of the UMPC and that's something I cherish.
