I can't wait for people to buy this and Frame, try to run a PCVR game, then cry that it runs like dogshit on a 4k VR headset on a PC that has a Ryzen 7600 and an RX 7400.
If it had equivalent of a Ryzen 9600 + RX 9060 (preferably the 16 GB version) then I could see myself recommending it to normies.
Anonymous No.107189475 [Report] >>107189496
I can't see it becoming popular unless it's competitively priced for it's specs, it doesn't have the selling points of the steam deck, this is just a prebuilt PC, artsy types are still gonna stick with mac and any gaymer willing to drop major money on a PC is going to get either a generic prebuilt or build their own.
what interests me way more are the frame goggles. they've got the streaming but are actually a whole pc themselves with steam os built in. what I wanna know is if this means a true non-walled garden or headset, am I gonna be able to install whatever distro of choice I want on it and for it to still work, or to use them as a monitor strapped to my face as for my actual pc without having to send telemetry data everywhere? In my perfect world these goggles would just be plug and play the same way you get generic keyboard and mouse drivers, I want my neuromancer comfy rig built into a recliner

Don't hold your horses, unlike the Deck that has an AMD CPU, this one has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a 3 generation old smartphone CPU, without any hardware x86-to-ARM translation like Apple M series. Any PC game is going to run like dogshit on it.

We should only produce CPU's with 6 cores and 12 threads capped at 3GHz until developers learn how to write code.

The next Steam Deck is coming. But what they're doing is setting standards and convenience, the Steam Deck did influence on game optimization. While Sony and Xbox have been releasing some franchises into PC and considering becoming more open, this might be the push they needed.
Nintendo might be next. Valve is the Red Hat of gaming.

>>107189346
They chose Arch because Valve kinda do a lot of scrum-like development where they need to always have upstream packages and dependencies, specially with GPU stack. They chose Arch, but when they got frustrated with Arch infrastructure (their signing package server was so shit developers signed packages on their own pcs), they gave a top server for such purpose and started working with Arch.

>>107189268

It really depends on the price. I saw some people speculating around 400$ for base model but that's too pretty to be true.
Still, it's a nifty prebuild PC with preinstalled Steam environment, but is not locked into it. The glimpse into insides we got shows that there may be some option for customization and we even saw e-ink "personal project" front panel screen of one of the developers so probably Valve is planning to cash-in on third party custom parts producers.

I'm mildly positive about this thing but it really depends on the price and actual details.
