I gave them bow ties, changed the camera and added outlines for more toon like look since I first uploaded the video.
With every video I keep flip flopping between adding or removing outlines but I think overall I like the more defined and anime look that outlines give better than the smooth 3D sloppa look even if it's not a hugely impactful change.

What you're general opinion about outlines/edgelines in MMD videos?

It strongly depends on the model and shading used in question. Both can look good when done well. Really no matter which one is used, what matters is that there's effort put into it and its not just flat and ugly with no lighting.

Everytime someone brings up a patreon I really do appreciate it. But the whole reason I wanted to open it after this project was because I wanted to have the skillset knowledge to get content out at a consistent rate. Not having a patreon means that I have a lot of time to learn what I need for the future and to get some stuff in order moving forward. However that being said as frustrated as I am with MMD I might have to continue with it for the next project . Because just as I was getting everything ready for blender my modeling partner had a huge fucking medical incident but he will get better god willing. I've been trying to learn how to translate my assets I got made for MMD to Blender and I just can't do it so I'm still weighing up my options but I might just have to stick with MMD for the next one. But I won't have to spend nearly as much time on the next project because I was spent a lot of time learning MMD on this project but now I have no incentive to get better in MMD if I'm moving to Blender.

The only youtube video which wasn't also announced on fantia so far is that UNDEAD short. Three of the videos which were announced on fantia have to be downloaded from youtube, まっさらブルージーンズ, Rabbit Hole, and キャットラビング.
The standout stuff so far is definitely his Helltaker Nomination Dance video and Yeah oh ah oh reuploaded from nicovideo. But anything with his Dekai Akari is worth it for me.

I'm using ray-mmd for the picture and excellentshadow for the webm here.
Ray is closer to what you see from blender creators while the other is basically an enhanced version of the base MMD shading.
Funnily enough, with ray I tend to use effects that bring back the 2D anime look a little bit while with excellentshadow I use effects that add all the bells and whistles that come with ray.

I did try experimenting with stuff like that during my HMV stuff but it's not just creative limits it's also the fact that I'm making the equivalent of 3 scenes sometimes to fill in the same space of one. I've also realised I've been doing that by making so many scenes animations I think I should be using one animation and kind of cut the camera two to three times with variations in the same animation so I can get more value out of the work I put in. But hopefully as I continue to work I'll have some sort of Revelation creativity wise!

For God's sakes people... Thanks for high quality but please learn how to encode. There is no reason a two or three minute 1920x1080 clip should be over 4 fucking gigabytes especially if you are using HEVC.

To answer your question, I usually use it mostly for faps on the telephone but years ago in the earlier days of MMD I would project it on the side of my barn on clear summer nights and blast it on my Yamaha amplifier and cddlive festival speakers. Haven't done that in years. People all down the valley could probably hear me getting drunk alone and dancing using a an outdated HTPC loaded Playlist of videos. I'm on alot of acreage so it's OK.

For the last five years or so (around fake pandemic time) I built a home theater and got a Xbox hueg screen and new HTPC that supports 4k HDR at 60hz and Klipsch Dolby Atmos 5.1 setup paired with another much smaller Yamaha amplifier. The HTPC connects by WIFI 6 to the NAS I have in my server/equipment room. I've never really watched MMD videos in the home theater because... Why? I normally only use it to fap and I don't do that in my home theater.

Phone screens these days are generally superior and use advance tech such as AMOLED. Sure, you might be able to get a little higher resolution on your monitor but phone screens are calibrated pretty darn good these days and I've even used "calibrite" tools on both. This isn't 10 years ago.
