MODEL WATCH

There are new merge models being released every day so testing out some of them for the thread.

This time first up is AstralBloom: https://civitai.com/models/1796519/astralbloom . This is a new 2.5Dish anime style. From the description it seems like a lot of focus was put on facial features, but it feels very similar to other 2.5D models.

Next, Duchesse: https://civitai.com/models/1798332/duchesse . Duchesse is based on IllustriousXL with a bunch of LORA merged to make more like PonyXL's anime 2.5D look. Seems to lean more towards 3D than other 2.5D styles like the above AstralBloom.

Next up is Mayano_Mix: https://civitai.com/models/1800138/mayanomix . A Japanese model with an entirely Japanese description that when translated includes the phrase "I aimed for a plump model." This has by far the most 2D anime look for all the models today, It also seems to generally want to make characters smaller / shorter as well. Probably the stand out model of this set.

Lastly, UltraVistaNoob: https://civitai.com/models/1801828/ultravistanoob . This is a Chinese model based on NoobAI. It seems to focus more on scenery and backgrounds, with most of the example images being wide shots. It seems to want to add a lot of details to a scene, but those details seem less clear.

Included WAI for comparison. I think Mayano_Mix is worth checking out, and if you're just looking for more variations on 2.5D looks then the first two might have merit as well.

I've been doing more testing with samplers.

Gradient Estimation consistently wants to add more detail to an image, but can seem rough / noisy / cluttered. It seems like it might be good for photorealistic gens, or if you know you're going to do inpainting or editing to clean things up and wouldn't mind fixing extra details.

Kohaku_LoNyu_Yog is the opposite and by far the smoothest sampler, smoothing out a lot of detail and causing a flatter look. This seems really good for more of a 2D animation look like cartoons or flat anime.

SEEDS 3 DP and SA-Solver also both seem good. SEEDS 3 might take the longest but also seems to result in quality gens. SA-Solver seems similar but favors more saturated / vibrant colors.

I usually start at something around 1024x1024, and usually upscale 2x. However, lately I've been experimenting with 3x upscales or 4x upscales. and it does seem to generally look better. The tradeoff is those upscales take significantly longer.

I did prompt male tags, including out of frame, but you don't always need that. Just prompting penis is usually enough to get a floating dick at the edge of the image, no need for 1boy.

Currently I'm upscaling with the upscaler 4xNomos8kSC at 0.25 Denoise. More denoise tends to occasionally cause issues during the upscale, while lower than 0.25 doesn't do much refinement during upscaling. I have gone as low as 0.1 to prevent issues coming up though.

4xNomos8kSC seems like a good all around upscaler, though I've also used R-ESRGAN 4x+ Anime6B, 4xUltraSharp and 4xUltraSmooth too.

Well yeah but I mean your pics don't have to be super massive. You do the img2img pass to fix details but if you go too big you get screwed because the model isn't supposed to work at such big resolutions. I gen at regular SDXL base res or those new noob AI resolutions like 1200x1200 and then never go beyond 1.5x in img2img. If I want the image to be really big I just upscale 1.5x again in extras tab at the very end without any denoise.

Testing more new anime local models for the thread.

First up this time is Detallia: https://civitai.com/models/1794559/detallia . Another anime / semi-realism mix model, the default look is 2.5Dish but according to the description it can be prompted for both a more anime look and a more realistic look.

Next up is MaceSpell: https://civitai.com/models/1794063/macespell . This is a merge of so many different things even the creator forgot what's in it apparently. It has a flatter 2D look and more simple background. If you're looking for something smoother and less detailed this could work.

Then we have NAI-X v2.0 (Vanilla-Like Noob): https://civitai.com/models/1804251/nai-x-v20-vanilla-like-noob . This is based on NoobAI instead of IllustriousXL. It's an attempt to improve the default look of NoobAI without changing the model much. It does seem more consistent than the default NoobAI model, though whether that's enough of a reason to use it or not is up to you.

Lastly, we have NapalmDeathSpell: https://civitai.com/models/1803976/napalmdeathspell . This is a merge of 6 different anime-styled models. All of them combined seemed to end up with a WAI like look, though it seems to have more depth and shading than WAI.

Danbooru has a whole series of "presenting" tags, like "presenting breasts," "presenting ass," "presenting pussy," etc. Testing them out they seem to have a less close-up effect than "focus" tags like "ass focus," "breast focus," etc. Playing around with the weights seems to also change the shot so you can get a lot of different scenes this way.
