>>17751319One thing I've noticed: Churchill was aware of Operation Torch, yet he demanded that Montgomery take a stand against Rommel at El-Alamein. This doesnt make sense at all. Churchill could have told Montgomery to keep fighting delaying actions and keep overextending Rommels supply line, since Churchill knows that Rommel will HAVE to make a U-turn to face the allied forced in Tunisia.
The battle for El-Alamein is actually completely pointless, and Churchill only forced it because he wanted a 'British' victory before the Americans join in, so people died at El-Alamein purely for Churchills political points, not because it was strategically necessary since Operation Torch made it redundant.
