i find it really funny how it was catholics from the renaissance and baroque who were the first to see the medieval period as dark and obscurantist, whereas the secularists/atheists of the victorian/romantic era were the ones to romanticize the middle ages as chivalric and heroic

Golden Age for English poetry. It's different in Germany and France and I believe the area where Romanticism differs the most between national scenes. Herder, Goethe, Chateaubriand, Wordsworth, too many names.

The same as above. It differs a lot, there's not really a Romantic philosophy. German Idealism became the biggest current for us today but I mantain that it's only because in Germany there's a cult for the academia which isn't shared in other countries. Hegel's lectures were funded by the Prussian state. It also helps that these ideas had practical effects on German nationalism, eternalized in 1871.
