I remember reading somewhere that if Alexander didn't die in Babylon, he would have next
>Made Babylon the capital of his new empire and rebuild the city
>Conquered the coastline of western Arabia (aka the Hejaz)
>Conquered Carthage
>Conquered the rest of the Balkans and Italy
When he does finally croak out, what would realistically happen after his death? Would his empire survive with his heir ruling it?

>>Conquered the coastline of western Arabia (aka the Hejaz)
This was actually planned
>Conquered Carthage
Highly unlikely, they were the last major Mediterranean power other than Macedon by that point
>Conquered the rest of the Balkans and Italy
Definitely not. Alexander had his heart rather set on conquering India and Central Asia. There really isn't that much to gain in the Balkans other than Thrace, which he already brow beat into submission. The Central Italians were incredibly militant and at this point they hardly had much of an economy, proto-currency wouldn't even emerge until they invaded Southern Italy which was just bronze bullion stamped in a circle by anybody who could. There is little for him in the West maybe other than Carthage and Syracuse, but why fight a naval war with the last major state in that part of the world when India is closer in logistics and has far more than just Sicily and Punic North Africa as an award.
>Would his empire survive with his heir ruling it?
Stability in the Empire after his death continued for a couple years until his brother was assassinated and finally his son years after which was the real end of Empire. Presumably if Philip lived longer or his son was of age there is no reason not to think it would last. Though it's unlikely Alexander would have lasted much longer anyway, over the course of his campaigns he took 3 near-fatal injuries which for anybody would have needed major lifestyle changes and still have a massively reduced quality of life and caught a particularly bad strain of malaria. There's a pretty good chance he did just die of natural causes from his body failing

That makes it more likely, not less.

He quit the India campaign though, I don't think he was planning on returning.

Arrian says he was going to rebuild the city, but it was never going to become a capital again.

Forgot to add the 'but'. Later reasons still apply.

Other than his Arabia campaign we don't know anything he was planning really. But I doubt he would have gone West. It sort of just reeks of 'the Romans did it though'. There really isn't that much in the West of value. Nearly all of Italy and the Balkans had little to give and took a lot to take. You're just going into an unmonetised economy with peoples that have no history or culture of being under large scale organised rule. Same reason why the Roman conquest of Northern Italy took decades, or in Spain which took nearly and entire century of constant warfare.

The East Asia would've been a better place had Japan won... Sad. Or if Oda Nobunaga (Demon King) had continued to live and formed his GREAT NIPPON EMPIRE and led mankind into space by 200 (AA) AFTER HIDEYOSHI. Instead we got the Southern Ming/Vassalage Korea... yuck

He would've formed the GRECO-PERSIAN-ARABIAN-INDIAN-CHINESE empire and we would've been in space by 300 AA (AFTER ALEXANDER).
