It's been possible for decades but that's not really the issue anyways. It's one thing to be possible and another to be practical or desirable. I think Mars could be a good target because the tempurature is (relatively) mild at the equator but that's a lot of money to spend on living in a cube in some desert that takes 6 months minimum in a cage just to even get to

The proof its mostly hopeless is China.
China gave a much higher proportion of its GDP to Africa back even when it was much poorer, and didn't make all of the "mistakes" (not asking African's what they actually need in their own context) the US did.
And in spite of this, we have the "all so tiresome result" for the Chinese, and for most intents and purposes the Americans and Europeans have given up on African development as an aid tool and instead just send them finished products.

What people can't/wont accept is that civ building is a bloody business and its was in every nation in the developed world.

Yet the rest of the world steps in whenever the consolidation wars start, and so Africa will forever remain in arrested development with a bunch of premodern tribal identities vs being melted down and fused together into workable modern nations via massive conflict.

Chinese are still investing a ton into Africa. The all so tiresome meme is taken way outta context because many Chinese know they were honestly as bad or often times worse.

>What people can't/wont accept is that civ building is a bloody business and its was in every nation in the developed world.
True but I do thing much larger and more populated/geopolitical relevant states could flaunt Copyright and IP protection laws alongside most orgs being powerless from getting member states from flaunting their rulings which both developed states and notable developing states such as China and India have frequently done. If I as only an individual can buy up debt from some 13 million people podunk state as a vulture fund parasite and then spend my days jewing the state by non-stop bringing them to court in some third party state and making them pay up more (and cucking the other debt shares owners willing to negotiate for less), I don't think pulling a "fuck you whatcha gonna do beetch" approach would work.

Not at all. A lot of it was already exploited or known of in the colonial era on top of the exploitation of human resources (as laborers and soldiers) being well known. Many states inside and outside of Africa had their labour and resource exploitation ramped up during the two world wars to feed the war machine on both sides.

Chinese investment into Africa is just a way for them to escape being a manufacturing economy that's holding them back by attempting to turn Africa into what China itself is to the US but it mostly failed because there's actually far more NIMBYism in Africa that doesn't get enough credit plus different African countries have wildly different local zoning laws, and the few Sub Saharan nations that have a relatively high HDI like Botswana are because they took the tourism pill

Western aid to africa is a direct equivalent of food stamps for full time wallmart workers - they are simply exploited so hard that they would starve if the governments didn't step in to prop this whole system up. Plus the aid actually suppresses development because the local production cannot compete with "free" stuff.

China regularly gets FELL FOR IT AGAIN AWARD when trawling through African business corruption. There's money to be made in Africa, but man, corruption has to be priced in as a business risk.

The problem with doing business in africa is the risk of nationalization, coups, paying bribes, increased taxes, theft. Imagine putting $600 million into developing mines and then just 7 years down the road the government there decides to tax most of the profit away.

You dont even know what that means. A "Wumao" would be a white liberals arts degree holding woman traveling to Africa with a 6-fig salary in an NGO teaching Africans how to be gay while bashing a effeminate man wearing a woman's head covering for being "too religious" because she thinks it's a hijab.

Its pretty good. They sell cost effective smartphones that cater to the locals markets and Transsion is expanding into the EV market to employ the same strategy it did to gain ~50% of the phone martket in Africa over ten years. The only non-Chinese brand that has an impact is Samsung which is 2nd place. They literally aren't doing anything special at all.

I don't really get what you're on about.
My point is that to form a modern capable nation state, you need wars, a lot of them, and bloody ones.
That's how all that tribal territorialized nonsense gets shook out.

The fake divisions are destroyed by the wars, and the real ones are reflected by the new borders.

The thing you need to remember is the white man's burden has never gone away. Africa is still treated like the Wests child. China is a little better but still it's cool uncle.
Until the world take it seriously (prior to it actually demonstrating it ought to be) and kicks it out of the house, it's going to remain a mess.

So this guy wants to wage slave in space with a much higher chance to die while doing so? Underwater welders have a high mortality rate due to their working conditions as both welders and divers. Even plain welders have higher amounts of health condtions and lower lifespan than a substantial amount of trades careers. There's no feasible way to make space+industry work without very high death or turnover rates.

Africa isnโ€™t a country.

HDI varies wildly across the continent.

But according to the overwhelming consensus of economists the most successful economies are those with a stronger system of inclusive institutions in place and profit-seeking rather than rent-seeking forms of subsistence.

Look at North and South Korea. Same people, same peninsula, and largely the same culture. Yet one is an economic powerhouse and one is an economic backwater. See also the United States: the Democrat areas are drastically wealthier and better developed than the Republican areas.

The economies of Africa most closely resemble Red State America, with all of the associated failures. In contrast, the stronger African economies are more reminiscent of Blue State America.

The problem is we don't really have mining or industrial concerns on any of those planets and even if we had made an effort to colonize the inner ring of planets we'd only just now be developing micro nations there. Mars is outright lethal to human habitation and the effects of low gravity on the human body are fucking brutal if you ever decide to come home to Earth. And the entire healthcare system is fueld by doctors and nurses, truckers and oncallers drinking up coffee to make their 12,16, and 24+ hour shifts. No other item can fulfill that same niche because they all come with caveats. Even if coffee becomes unsuitable for mass exports the markets in LatAm and Africa will just service their local needs and expand locally.
