Not really. The way vote is just cashing in on countering republicans and blacks and Hispanics are mostly thrown under the bus since both parties break promises to them the same way Republicans do for most of its voterbases. None of the two parties actually give a shit about their voters regardless.

WW2 whipped everyone up into a participatory frenzy, average people engaged with the structures of societies, advocated for their self interest and thus profited.

As they profited, their children profited, and let down their guard. Thus plutocratic interests began dismantling what they built piece by piece, undermining labor to drive up profits, spiraling down to the modern day which is a demoralized nadir of public participation that can only be escaped from by crisis or a great mass inspiration.

The right isn’t picking up the slack and it’s a huge missed opportunity. Conservatives like Trump at least tap into that dissatisfaction with his rhetoric, but you know how it’s actually going.

Just because they’re liars and throw their voting chattel under the bus doesn’t mean they aren’t using them as voting chattel. But they do give them more than republicans give to their voter base. They keep trying to bring them in en masse and don’t want to send them back. That’s why their votes are so easily gained.

the taft hartley act of 1947 severely undermined unions by giving the president power to unilaterally break strikes "in the national interest." It also made general strikes illegal, requiring unions to only strike against their employer, and strikes against secondary employers contracting with their employer were only allowed in very limited circumstances. It also weaponized the national labor relations board (the government agency that handles labor disputes) against unions, by empowering businesses to be able to sue their unions at the NLRB for unfair labor practices, while prior to this only unions could sue management for unfair labor practices.

Truman vetoed it, but congress overrode the veto, then Truman proceeded to use the presidential strike breaking authority 12 times.

>"Well, there you go again, scaring everyone into thinking I'm actually gonna smash the unions like I've been saying someone should for my entire political career."
Class consciousness amongst the plebs can only happen in cities. The second people spread out from each other, you get dibshit Republican voter beliefs like "actually, the rich are geniuses, not the source of my suffering" and "actually, the local teacher's union are the TRUE elites; no, don't ask me how they could be both the elites and yet not have billions."

The reason the rich are organized is because they're constantly coming together and centralizing: they go to the same schools, same clubs, work at the same companies, buy the same mansions, live together, fly the same private planes together, etc. The reason the people are doomed is because they're so decentralized and scattered about, experiencing radically different lives and different margins of society, not only making them easy to pick off one-by-one but preventing any sort of class organization despite their common source of suffering and common interests.

When people are that disorganized, that's when you get idiotic beliefs like thinking the elites are an alliance of undergrads, the gays, the unions, the libs, illegal migrants, the homeless, "urban Americans," non-Christians, and whoever is the current leader of the Democratic party.

The repeal of the fairness doctrine also played a part in the deterioration of American society. Before, people were forced to hear both sides the argument on the issues of the day. Now, everyone can live inside partisan echo chambers where you're constantly pumped a message that everyone outside the party is a pedophile.

This isn't because Republicans are genuinely committed to freedom of not having to hear viewpoints, since their end-goal is to get rid of all media that's not basically run by the party. This is a reaction to the Nixon investigation, where everyone had to watch the evidence come in. That's when you get Republican voters seeing that Nixon clearly tried to use campaign funds to bribe prisoners for their silence, and this forcing them to face reality is what moved them to pressure their Republican representatives to remove the president. Eventually, the GOP learned that you have to set up echo chambers to prevent voters from being exposed to reality, which is when you get the push for the fairness doctrine repeal in the '80s, and Fox in the '90s.

There's not really a middle class in the US anymore, other than nominally. Since the mid-70s, wealth has slowly been centralized into the hands of the ultra-rich, something that runs directly parallel with the destruction of unions and suppression of labor.

The problem with this statement is that "middle-class" is poorly defined. The vast majority of Americans own some kind of property or home or at least have a close family member that does, which traditionally puts the majority of Americans within the middle class, and everyones standard of living is different so what might be a frugal for some could be overindulgent for others

When the US loaned out money to Japan and Europe to rebuild their more centralized planning structures got the top of the line machinery and stuck people on it while the US sat on their hands. This was because the US machinery was now outdated and required much more skilled labor to operate. The Unions negotiated to be transferred to a new "clean" job rather than being laid off. So not only were the companies forced to foot the bill of the furnaces, they had to foot the bill of a worker who isn't working while you start shitting money into the void making your operation "clean" for the environment so you can transfer that worker into that new industry, while training them.

In Japan they just laid everybody off

Labor unions peaked from the 1920s to the 1970s when there was barely any immigration to disrupt them. We’ve basically returned to a gilded age/progressive era situation today.

>Why did unions die out in America?

Unions themselves bear much of the blame, as in the 1970s they stopped trying to expand unionization and instead focused on getting more and more for their already unionized members (many of which were lazy useless fucks). UAW workers for example will happily "work" 12 hour days 7 days a week instead of demanding more union workers get hired, as they don't actually physically work anything even close to those hours and are just sucking up overtime money.

If you go to the UAW's website and try to look up getting a union, all they tell you is "talk to your coworkers about getting a union!" which will only get you fired when some bootlicker rats you out to management. Back in the 1930s-50s the union was _actively_ pushing to unionize non-union shops and holding rallies and strikes all over the US to get more people unionized.

>The American “left” stopped caring about the working class, even began to hate them, and started prioritizing fags and cheap Mexican and black votes.

True, in the 1970s the Dems went full-retard supporting every fringe kook element out there to the point average Americans (many of them union members) threw their support behind Reagan.

We're seeing the same happen with Trump getting elected, as the Dems once again ignored average Americans to promote trannies, illegals, dindos, etc.

Unions are voluntary. Mass migrants don't participate because the $200 membership fee that won't protect their ass for the next 5 years anyway can be sent to their family instead.

You've never seen how unions function in the US, am I right?

Not true, a lot of legal migrants are drawn to left wing (often hard left) politics, and deportations were a huge part of the first red scare.

I got forced out of my home country by market conditions, you think I like having the world dominated by those? You think any of us do?
And no one likes low wages, every worker under capitalism takes what they can get and getting underpaid comes down to a lack of bargaining power (and, to a degree, corpos buying politicians to give immigrants less bargaining power than citizens)
I'm sorry about your coworkers ignoring OSHA, that's bad and they shouldn't do that.

Completely wrong. If even some vote conservative, they mostly vote democrat. The spread is huge in favor of democrats and its worth bringing them in. You’re also pretending that the overall trends. California will never be red again because of hispanic migration. Georgia became a swing state because of demographics shifts (and its not from more black people). You don’t need a supermajority to win a state. It’s not just Mexicans too but other immigrants like Somalis that strengthen democrat votes in places like Minnesota. Dems are the ones that push everything aside and bring these people in as fast as they can because its easy votes. Then actual, or self-described leftists, support it.

If I did go back, would there not just be more competition for jobs (thereby driving down wages) in the country I originated from? (which appears, based on other posts in this thread, to also be your home country)
"More workers = worse life for every worker" is a product of capitalism and is better resolved by building class consciousness than by policing national boundaries.

anon, I emigrated *from* America...
Also, in the 1930s (which also had tight immigration policy, the restrictions came in 1924) Americans moved to the USSR because they were being fucked over so hard by the Great Depression.
It wasn't tight immigration in itself that made America prosperous for the average person, but its labor movement and having a pro-worker president in FDR.

FDR put Americans in concentration camps and did everything he could to cause Americans to starve and exacerbate the great depression
he seized gold and then caused inflation so the asset rich rich would have more and regular people would lose their savings, he passed the NFA to stop starving people from "poaching" and he ordered crops burned while people starved.
