Even the most zealous retards on this website who call themselves Christian fail to do this. Just mention blacks, Jews, of non-Whites in general.

Is this a flawed teaching? I became a deist because I still believe in God, but I can't reconcile this teaching with my life experiences. Fuck people who seek to harm or slander you. They aren't your friends.

Forgiveness is a common theme in Christian thinking and necessary for salvation
By forgiving your enemies you end a cycle of violence and bring yourself closer in alignment to God
I think forgiveness is an extremely important virtue but it's also one of the most challenging

That's kinda the point of the teaching. They're not your friends, but you should love them anyway. Maybe that is hard to do, but it's not clear why morality needs to be easy.

This is referring to people who do you personally wrong in some specific way. It isn't referring to enemies of God, which is a separate category. The Bible never instructs you to condone or permit evil when it comes to atrocities committed against others.

"And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD."
- 2 Chronicles 19:2

"Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."
- Psalm 139:21-24

"If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema"
- 1 Corinthians 16:22

>Fuck people who seek to harm or slander you. They aren't your friends.
If all they're doing is causing you a setback, it really isn't worth getting bent out of shape for. That's what this teaching is actually about. If you have faith you realize that all things work together for good to them that love God (see Romans 8:28).

"If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord."
- Romans 12:18-19

I could say the same about your Bible interpretation. Who are your sources to say "This is referring to people who do you personally wrong in some specific way"?

>Who are your sources to say "This is referring to people who do you personally wrong in some specific way"?
You can read every single passage that deals with the doctrine of forgiveness and it's always the same thing. Just because you forgive people who cause you personal setbacks doesn't mean you are told to become tolerant or accepting of all sin. That isn't the biblical perspective. This is obvious to all but the most willfully ignorant people.

As just one example out of any you could go to, see what it says in Matthew 18.

"Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven."
(Matthew 18:21-22)

As usual, this passage is talking about someone who sins against you. You can see it in the way that Peter phrases the question. He is referring to someone who causes him some kind of offense, setback or personal harm. That's totally different from saying you should tolerate wickedness. See the following:

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."
- Ephesians 5:11

If you can convict them in court beyond a reasonable doubt, then yes they should be executed.
>confiscate their churches money, and melt down their idols.
Theft and vandalism are crimes. But if you have any idols (of any kind) in your life, you should get rid of them.

The love of God arises from the sense of justice, for having received everything from God, man in justice has only to render nothing less than everything to God. "Love of the Supreme Good, which has the right to be preferred to all other good, is the principle of justice. This love of the Supreme Good, which is self-diffusive, is the principle of mercy, a principle higher than justice, since, as radiating goodness, it is the first expression of love."

But what can man repay the infinite? "Whatever love you have for me you owe me, so you love me not gratuitously but out of duty, while I love you not out of duty but gratuitously. So you cannot give me the kind of love I ask of you. This is why I have put you among your neighbors: so that you can do for them what you cannot do for meโ€“that is, love them without any concern for thanks and without looking for any profit for yourself. And whatever you do for them I will consider done for me."

By such an act of love we more resemble God, and thus place the emphasis on its being full. The adoration of the sheep, any cloud of bright witnesses.

Jesus' ministry was during a time when the Jews were under the heel of the Roman empire, so it makes sense he would tell his followers to not cause trouble.

Because the Holy Spirit resides in Man, and through fighting the evil that plagues them with good can they be free. Fallen angels and Satan on the other hand have no Holy Spirit and are the true enemies set out to corrupt the good in man. They're the fuckheads spreading all the conflict and trying to lead people down the dark path, and they're the ones we're not supposed to bend over for and turn the other cheek.

that's the thing, Hell is reserved for those who won't repent. Hell is separation from God, so the mere act of trying to commune back with God despite the trillion billion years equivalent of unequaled agony won't ever cross your mind.
tl;dr you burned that bridge bro, and now you're suprised you can't cross the river?

Matthew 5
43 โ€œYou have heard that it was said, โ€˜Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.โ€™
44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Which basically means only caring and helping people in your life who return the favor does not spread kindness or love, it only stagnates it within your circle. You're going to have enemies in your life, everyone does, but don't wish for their downfall or relish in their suffering. In fact, reaching out to help might turn that enemy into a friend. It's not saying to be a doormat and take abuse, but don't let their hate spread to your own heart.

It's because first and foremost christ preaches altruism or "Otherism". The more you suffer for others the better you are as a person. Jesus himself died on the cross for things that other people did and he is the holiest to ever walk the earth because of it.

It is the inverse of survival of the fittest. We have ascended beyond simple nature. Our journey now takes us to saving even the weakest. It is heroic and morally beautiful when a physically fit man in his prime saves an elderly women from a fire, even at the potential cost of his own life. We are happy when we can save an unwanted child from the streets, or help a disabled man to walk using medical advancements. Everyone is much happier and would vastly prefer to live in a society like that than any other society.

Though, I don't know where Jesus ever said that the relationship between your child and a stranger are the same. Pretty sure he said they should both be treated equally, not that you must love them equally, which is different.
