Because Italians from different parts of italy are basically the closest to every population that did something from like the late bronze age to late antiquity in europe so there is crazy anti italian bias to try and separate at least some part of history from the peninsula.
Imagine there is a race that basically has all the ancient greeks figures, all the roman figures, and even a significant amount of carthaginian figures as close match in a forum-like environment where everyone is trying to guess the "master race". It's just too much history.
Greeks get the same treatment but mostly because they decided to stick with italians in the debate
