Why did millions of southern europeans choose latin america? It was blatantly obvious North America was going to become rich and powerful beyond measure and south america was not. All they had to do was look at who was successful in Europe (England, Germany, Nords) and move where they were moving

Were they just that much of tradcaths? Could they not learn English?

Because representatives from Lat-Am countries went to Southern Europe to actively recruit their surplus peasants and all the migrants got sick deals out of it. Free land being just the start.

Most of the Europe's lower classes in the 19th century were suffering extremely bad conditions from Industrialization, poor wages, lack of land, famines, overpopulation, political persecution and warfare. The Americas in general, not just the USA, had way higher wages and free land and so it made it an extremely attractive target for anyone desperate to leave Europe
