The 18th dynasty did have changing ideas, mostly to the idea of revering Amun as the highest God. It wasn’t unusual but he basically jumped the shark but outlawing all other cults outside of royal ones. Then his successors overcorrected to something away from the general trend of singular royal devotion to a God which was developing beforehand

The body of Amenhotep II very clearly has boils all over the surface of his skin. In addition the YouTube video also cites the fact that his firstborn son died young and was unable to succeed him to the throne. As well as the long reign of his father which is also consistent with the biblical account.

My guess? The Egyptians decided to settle Canaan when the Minoan eruption of 1600 caused plague, famine, acid raid, pests, etc.

Why? This is all covered in Exodus, but the subtext is that the Jews were unrelated to the Egyptians. All of the build up to the eruption and its effects (please let my people go, or god will do a number on you) makes no sense, but it is possible that slaves escaped in the chaos of the aftermath of the eruption. Then, they just made up the earlier part.

There are reasons to believe he wasn't that strange. His father went very hard in his own official propaganda about being a literal god on earth, Akhenaten simply identified his father with Aten and started "ruling together" in this kind if duo. There are some extravagant elements to his reign, but he sort or evolved them from the baseline provided by the existing order.
