It is clear that a divine making a creation full of suffering has committed an act of evil, but if you believe in one who is beyond good and evil, then it is unsurprising. When a deity like the God of the Bible, however, demands obedience to a set of laws, of a moral code, then his authority can only come from his benevolence. If he is just as bad as he is good, then you have no way of knowing whether or not these laws are just or beneficial, or even if this God intends on keeping his word with respect to the promises made for obedience. If God became Jesus and then got brutally executed by the same people he forced his laws onto, then it seems more acceptable. He followed the Law, died, and was raised as a way to prove to everyone that he does in fact have a greater goal in mind for humanity.
