What prevents christians from walking down the street and murdering random people for no reason and then repenting and asking for forgiveness?

You're implying there is such a thing as free will. You could argue that Christian philosophy is consistent with determinism (= we don't have free will).

If you listen to this talk you'll see similarities between his ideas and Christianity. One thing that comes to mind is the crocodile example, but that's just one example, it was really the whole talk, I recommend watching the whole thing.

Devil's advocate:
Someone who repents has to genuinly mean it and there is no chance in hell a random person who decided on the short term to kill people for fun has any chance to feel the weight of his sins.

But theoretically it is possible, but a person who murders on his whim only to repent immideatly afterwards doesn't get born very often.

It also depends on the sect of Christianity. Catholics and Lutherean Evangelicd believe in this, but some smaller sects do not believe in repetentance for such sinful acts.
