Nicky did everything in his power to piss off liberal reformers, socialist revolutionaries, AND Monarchist conservatives all at once with schizophrenic and nonsensical acts of adopting reforms only to roll them back. Having backwards or wrong policies is often preferable to having no policies, which just leads to confusion and chaos.

Russia was always extremely unstable, WW1 just provided the means to kill their German elite and swap Jesus for Lenin

It was the conservative nobles who killed Rasputin because they believed he was corrupting the Tsars judgement. Stolypin was often frustrated by Nicholasโ€™ inconsistent policies and wishy washy policies regarding detaining political radicals

Except the majority of the Western powers intervened AGAINST the Bolsheviks. The Russian peasantry chose to follow Bolshevism of their own choice
You can't always blame muh West for everything

They sent Lenin to Finland hoping he'd stir up some trouble. I don't think in their wildest dreams they thought it would lead to all of Russia collapsing but somehow it did

>Replace God and Jesus with Marx and Lenin
>keep everything the same
and most important: Win wars. Tsarist Russia lost the Crimea War and the Japanese War, while the Soviet Union won WWII. That's how Russia works

One thing that isn't emphasised enough is how pernicious communist radicalisation was amongst the actual workers in Russia
They didn't just wake up one day and decide they didn't want the Tsar, they were slowly corrupted by communist infiltrators amongst their ranks until they became bloodthirsty animals filled with bitterness and hatred

They didn't, the communists had support among a sliver of the population (industrial workers in big cities) while the vast majority were peasantry who were either SRs (real socialists) or politically unengaged. The communists couped the democratically elected SR government because their power base was in the big industrial city of Petrograd and basically shot or completely sidelined everybody in every other town or village who disagreed with them.
