there is no fear of a united slavdom because Russian imperialism has never offered anything to those it conquers other than violence and domination. there is a reason the Russian empire always cracks apart when the central government loses the plot, the conquered never actually want to be part of the whole. the unique fusion of Russian cultural arrogance of themselves as a chosen people and a history of state policy of prioritizing internal security at the expense of economic development is a self fulfilling prophecy for never being accepted by those the country conquers.

100% true. If Russia managed to get two competent tsars in a row during the 19th century, things might have ended up very different. Russia is such a strange country that you can't help but be fascinated, equal parts tragedy, glory and splendour and despite all the idiocy and incompetence and being literally at the frozen far edge of Europe, Russia still manages to drive history onwards for better or worse.
