If communism is such a bad ideology that will always fail on its own, why did americans spend so much time, resources and effort to actively try and destroy it? Why not let it run its course so the world can see its shortcomings? Now communists always have the excuse of CIA interference being the root of the problems.

Nobody actually knew which side was better and in fact both were wrong, communist ideology and socialism in general were necessary because there were so many despotic banana governments. The vast majority of countries have some socialist programs today. The downside of course, being that communism also suck.

I think the thing they never figured out was how to have a democracy that didn't immediately tear apart the Socialist project so instead they went for dictatorship to keep the ideology in power.

That's never been apparent. Communism was never even allowed to fail on its own since the americans were constantly interfering from day one, and still goes on strong to this day in multiple nations. Meanwhile, fascism has utterly failed and been replaced everywhere it's been tried.

Because wherever Communism takes root, mass slaughter occurs. Communists are evil psychos who enjoy killing the innocent. Every Communist regime is guilty of mass killings. While yes, the US could've simply ignored the Communist threat, that would've lead the deaths of billions of innocent people. It's morally repugnant to not stand against those animals.

If the Americans put in as much effort against them as they did against the Japanese it would be a whole different story. No one in their right mind would say the North Vietnamese were a more capable opponent than the Axis powers. The North Vietnamese victory is undermined by the U.S. not going “total war mode” on them. The U.S. military was working under so many restrictions that victory was impossible, not necessarily because of the skill of the army opposing them.
