Africans weren't just rounded up and captured by whites, they were already enslaved. Whites just bought them because it was more conevient than large scale kidnapping. There was/is a risk premium built in to the price paid for African natural resources, on account of the fact they can't form a functioning government or provide stability for more than 2 years at a time.
Had Africa demanded more for its resources, markets would have looked elsewhere, and those resources would have remained in the ground.

All this is to say, no one was exploited.
Africans were compensated fairly for their resources by the market.

Most blacks were enslaved by their own people. Small parties of whites wandering around Africa looking for people to enslave is not a practical way to conduct a massive slave trade, as it would've made the Africans hostile to Europeans and made the slave trade harder to practice.

So Europeans did what came naturally: they traded. They had guns, they had liquor, and blacks even then were enamored of both these things and willingly put their own people in chains to obtain them.
