>transfers american technology and american jobs to an authoritarian shithole that hates america and had fought a war with america in recent memory
Was he actually literally non-biblically scientifically publicly, really, this retarded?
He didn't hand the Chinese weapons but he handed them weapon factories. What was his gameplan? Was this an example of shortsighted public policy?

Americans supported the chinese to not support the russians. Basically we live in a timeline where china instead a of russia became the industrial powerhouse of the east. It's actually probably a giant US operation when you think about it.

WW3 was supposed to be against russia which took over europe but the US starved them.

China doesn't actualy hate the US anon, that's an invention by neocon boomer war hawks. Xi Xinpings own daughter actually attended Harvard for example and nobody made a fuss about it
Also, there are many things wrong with being a manufacturing economy and China is kind of proof of this, relative to their population their economic output is actually quite poor. The reason China is a good country to outsource labor to is because of favorable exchange rates between the Yuan and the USD/Euro, and this is a reflection of the difference in standard of living (China has the HDI of Mexico and a per capita GDP that's less than the global average)
If the west ever wanted to compete with China, they'd have to agressively devalue their currency and lower their working wages in order to reduce the cost of their product on a global market. It's maddening trying to explain this to people.

Its crazy how Washington keeps on pushing on china's only redline in Taiwan despite recognizing the one china policy. Thucydides Trap maybe?

The Sino-Soviet split took place after the Korean war, the failure of the cultural revolution also changed China, even before Mao had passed, his authority was passing to retainers as old age took its toll. The China of the 1970s was very different from the China of the early 1950s.

China was also very poor and at the time it was assumed economic liberalization, rising wealth, the development of an educated middle class and democracy went hand in hand, due to the success of the asian tigers and their transition to democracy. They could not predict the CCP would be capable of maintaining a single party state as China's economy developed.

True Chinese don't actually hate the west if anything they actually practically worship the west but and wants to mimic western modernity in everything they do
But the real problem is they see Asia as their own turf / sphere of influence and refuse west to control or dictate it. Imperial Japan until 1945 acted this way too

I just want to add, the narrative itself is delusional, "China took jobz!!1" is complete nonsense
(Manufacturing jobs as a percentage of total US employment, btw, is at the same level now as it was in 1924, who was your scapegoat in 1924 OP? Germany? XD)
China did not 'take' US jobs, CEOs saw the writing on the wall in the 80s but it really ramped up in the 90s, they automated what they could with machines, they moved a lot of jobs out of the declining 'Rust Belt' states to the booming 'Sun Belt' states and really really really shitty, low wage production that couldnt be near-sourced to Mexico, did go to East Asia and SE Asia
The fact of the matter is, this poster hits the nail on the head

The crackdown in Tiananmen in '89, was basically a push for economic reform while maintaining political power.
Deng actually gave a speech after the incident justifying his approach to economic liberalization/crackdown and Jiang followed through with Deng's reforms.
Which also led to china being one of most polluted countries at the time along with the rise of the largest population of middle class people.

More trade means less war. Also, tech companies willingly gave them tech transfers in return for cheap labor.
Do you think post-Mao china had the military clout to force american companies to give all their tech or die?
It was win-win for both countries. If it wasn't win-win, the tech transfers and cheap labor exchange would never have happened.

Formosa was never part of China. The Formosan people not Chinese. Chinese immigrants took over half the island. The US created the Taiwan issue with its support of Chiang Kai-shek. After he had his ass whipped during the Chinese civil war and fled to Taiwan he pronounced his government the legitimate government in exile of China and the US supported this.

One thing that struck me about watching CCP propaganda and some pro-statist Chinese stuff is how much they mimic American things. This doesn't extend to copying the political system, which is important, but they've been open to experimenting with all kinds of things. Like seeing a propaganda video about students hitting the books, and also perusing the college bookstore, and there are Xi Jinping books displayed prominently but also American-style varsity jackets. That is copied directly from American college campuses.

There's a scene in the cartoon Year Hare Affair (which is very nationalist) and some of the Chinese rabbits are visiting New York, and are marveling at it, and one of the rabbits comes across a magazine stand, and is like "oooh Western stufff..." and is tempted by Playboy, but has to resist his temptation, and buys a copy of a science and technology magazine instead. The closing message while looking out over the NYC skyline is that Americans made this stuff because they worked hard and relied on their own efforts:

That's true. Their arrogance is their major flaw. Christians are taught to feel sorry for being born. Jews are not. They have a kind of "tough love" culture, and violently interrupt each other all the time. There's a more telling-it-like-it-is attitude. Very direct. They also like to dance:
https://youtu.be/cjL0VI2UmMY

There's a Jewish comedian who had a bit about performing for old Jews at retirement homes in Florida and how they'd always shamble up to her after the show to say what they thought, and it always started out nice and then turned nasty. Like "I thought you were really funny... but nobody around me laughed once!" Or "up close you're really pretty, but up on stage you look like an animal!" If Christians came up after the show, it was rare, and it was always "I'm so sorry for bothering you... but I thought you were really funny."
