Poland would be a superpower today if not for Germanic imperialism
Anonymous No.17865164 >>17865216
Poland is quickly becoming one of the richest countries in Europe, and will soon overtake the UK in GDP per capita. I think that's about as close as you can get to a regional superpower within the EU's framework.

Maybe you should have created a political system that wasn't completely fucking retarded, kneecapping your state until it went from this to the "free real estate, partition 2 get 1 for free!" area of Europe.

Poland would be a superpower if it wasn't geographically positioned between two superior powers.

Very true
Even just without ww2 Poland would have a population and economy equal to France, or perhaps even Germany. And that was a lesser Poland compared to what came before

I don't know where you got that idea from, even if it is growing faster.

It was the superior power during the PLC, it then completely fumbled the ball. You talk as if Poland started out as a rump state between a united Germany and Russia when it was the other way around.

There was no standardised english spelling for Kyiv back then.
Take pic related, which spells it "Kiova" for instance. you might also see things like Kijow or Kiow.
Point is Kiev would also be anachronistic and it's a very stupid thing to complain about. Would you also be angry if you saw "London", "Paris" or "Rome" on a map of the Roman empire?

Those are the established English names, Kyiv is being artificially forced within the past 3 years. It's a prescriptivist linguistic imposition which I reject, akin to if Paris were renamed "Paree" on the demand of the French government, which I would likewise reject.

Could you please also use the names Ratisbon, Francford and Aix-la-Chapelle, which are the traditionally preferred terms for German cities in English. If you're going to be autistic it'd be nice if you're consistent

That's not the point, the point is that you are inconsistent. You said it's annoying that you 'have' to say Kyiv instead of Kiev but at the same time you are willing to inconvenience yourself by using archaic names that will confuse the rest of society.

Kiev was the long-established name and "Kyiv" is an artificial renaming effort.

None of those names have been traditionally preferred in English for centuries at least.
>>17865577
It is consistent to reject another politically-motivated renaming. It will not confuse the rest of my society, as it is already called Peking in it.
>You said it's annoying that you 'have' to say Kyiv
I never used the verb "have" in this conversation except in the phrase "I will have sympathy [...]".

Doubtful.

They were sandwiched between two of the three world powers in the early 20th Century. They were bound to be eaten by one or both.

They're lucky to, more or less, be given their country back after WW2 (yes, I'm aware it was still part of the Soviet Union).

I think it's only by a rare fluke that Poland even still exists. But they do seem to be on an upward trajectory and good for them.
