How does America cope with the humiliation?
Anonymous No.17867273
By saying that uncle Ho was actually nationalist instead of socialist (they forget the fact that all of asian socialism is nationalist by nature and that includes people like Mao Pol Pot and the Kims)

The U.S. won the Cold War. Vietnam was just a measure taken to prevent Soviet communism from spreading in Asia, but at the end of the day despite the American failure in that specific country, the fall of the USSR made it trivial.

Americans have a short attention span, and we got our revenge on the Russkis in Afghanistan. Also speedballs.

My surprise with Vietnam is how come they don't hate us anywhere near as much as North Korea does and turned into some crazy 1984-esque bunker state. Seems like they should justifiably hate us all things considered. Instead theres McDonald's with cokes in Hanoi and we trade basedbeans for shoes with them.

North Korea was denied South Korea because of the U.S., North Vietnam got South Vietnam so there’s less reason for them to be upset. They already got what they wanted.

Why are mutts like this?
Anonymous No.17867351
1.) It wasn't a military loss (in fact, Saigon fell after the military already left the country)

2.) It's only considered a loss in America itself ironically enough. For the Vietnamese it is taught as a Civil War, with America simply backing a side of it rather than being directly involved. It would be like considering the American Civil War a loss for Great Britain because they floated backing the Confederates

3.) Vietnam and the US maintain good relations today, so it's mostly water under the bridge.

It seems to me that the only people treating Vietnam as some point of humiliation for Americans are either brown third worldists or self-hating Chuds.

America was intentionally holding back from invading North Vietnam because it didn't want a repeat of the Korean War where China sent its military to fight. America was just there to prop up the South Vietnamese government for as long as possible.

>we killed more of them
>it was the arvn's fault
>it was the south's gubmint's fault
>it was the hippies' fault
>the top brass wouldn't let us win
>at least we built a McDonald's there 20 years and 50k dead Americans later
>look, which just didn't lose ok? why? because we just didn't.
Take your pick. I personally blame the arvn.

I remember reading that the Vietnamese consider the war against the US as just another war against a colonialist, nothing special really. Most of their hate is supposedly aimed at China because China is their historical archnemesis

Basically this, they had a spat with America, beat them, then America went home
No matter how many times they fight China and win, China is always next, always trying to subjugate them, for thousands of years and counting

That was a convenient excuse though IRL nobody was actually afraid of China's WW1 military.
