With the amhara and Somali gun powder kingdoms rapidly and genocidly expanding south, was European colonialism halting this the saving grace for the Bantu peoples?

They weren't.

Opposite actually. Anyone with Bantu ancestry was placed at the bottom of the totem pole in the colonies. Alos the Bantu states in Africa were farm from "defenseless".

Also Ethiopia only began expansion outwards contemporaneous with the scramble for Africa.

Lol no. The only reason those bulb heads had firepower was because of Europeans arming them in the first place. If it was an even playing field Bantvs would’ve conquered both.

yes once united under menelik he conquered and started expanding with guns, why would we assume he would have stopped this southern and eastern push without the scramble for africa?

the gap was too high for it to be a even playing field, ethiopians were trading with the west for thousands of years, it would all be colonized by menilik or the mad mahdi even if the scramble never happend

Britain created a remote vassal state called Abyssinia in 1868 when their jeet army made Showa warlord Teodros kill himself. Rather than incorporating the worthless rump with no sea outlet into the empire they kept it a no man’s land as a buffer against Italian/French presence in the horn.

It wasn't one. More so considering way more foreign and European advisors and policies figures were already still close with Ethiopia.

Thats a super narrow comparison to make. Especially since there are many mixed and black states with higher or equal HDI than both.

All 3 are still livable black countries on par with or slightly below the Dominican Republic and shatter your whitoid race realist LARP to pieces. Cope. Go and get replaced by Abdul .
