Yeah it's amazing just how inaccurate a portrayal the media gives regarding race, especially black people. All white Americans are Anglo's. Even the swarthiest spaghetti eating Sicilian in New Jersey is an Anglo. The American ruling class knew they couldn't convince the billion different little feuding micro-ethnicities of Europe to embrace British culture, especially when many of those ethnicities were sworn enemies of Britain. But what they could do was rename "Anglo" to "White" and pretend it was some racial thing instead of cultural. So all the immigrants embraced English ways of speaking and eating and thinking and behaving. Being told those were how "White People" behaved. This had the added benefit of making sure no group of newcomers would make common cause with the blacks as a fellow group of mistreated outsiders.
