Why boomers decided to destroy western civilization?

Boomers didn't set out to "destroy" western civ, but their policies like unchecked capitalism, environmental neglect, and short-term thinking had major downsides. Many prioritized immediate growth over sustainability, leaving younger gens to deal with the fallout. It;s less about malice and more about shortsightedness... Also, not all boomers are the same.

Living standards are higher and the environment is cleaner than it was in the 70s.

>their policies
implying that any generation has meetings to form strategies. humans are followers, they go where they're led. sort of like jonestown, but more evil.

>Living standards are higher
Cheap tech and microwave ovens don't make for a high standard of living when the average single man's income can not buy a home or support a family. Things are bad for most, very bad indeed. I am glad to be one of the few who made it, but most never will.

Unchecked capitalism and short-term thinking? I'm sure the boomers weren't in a cold war that easily could've wiped out humanity. I wonder why they acted as they did?

>living standards
back in the 70s housing was cheap and tech gadgets were expensive. now its the opposite. I'd rather own my home at age 30 and have a black and white tv than be a rentoid serf with an iphone 18 or whatever the fuck they're at now
not to mention the cost of healthcare or education.
>environment is cleaner
this is mostly true. the things we have today are pretty nightmarish and effectively impossible to clean up but at least random rivers aren't spontaneously combusting due to industrial runoff and you can breath the air in major cities

Boomers were raised by Silents who beat them for ever fucking up but also spoiled them rotten with TV and gifts they didn’t have to earn. This gave warped ideas of what love is as well as a massive sense of entitlement. They see their kids as competition not their legacy. They were raised by the TV to believe things that are observably false.

They weren't that bad. Sure, they elected Reagan, and fused neoconservatism with fundamentalist Christianity to create some mutant political/religious movement, but Western civilization isn't destroyed yet. There's still hope, chud.

Basically I think it was living in a time with no real crisis except existential ones and generally being born into a time of relative prosperity. The music ruled though. Idgaf.
