Was LBJ closer to being morally good or morally evil?
Anonymous No.17898530
wasn't he the guy that betrayed the south preceding but also facilitating civil rights?

Oh certainly evil.
Sure he accomplished some great things, but make no mistake. He was an utter bastard.

He used blackmail and entrapment to get much of his agenda passed through congress, he opened up a brothel in DC so he could secretly film senators and representatives having affairs.
He would personally intimidate and threaten people who were opposed to him.

I think the best example though is the attack on the USS Liberty by Israel.
In brief to those not aware, to sure up American support for Israel during one of their many wars with the Arab world, they tried to stage a false-flag attack on the American spy ship the USS Liberty. They wanted to sick it, kill everyone aboard and then blame it on their enemies. It didn't take, the ship and many of its crew survived.

But when LBJ was told about it, he said that he didn't want to embarrass America's ally, and ordered to allow the whole ship and all of its American crew to die.

Like >>17898534 said. He was an extreme pragmatist. His dad, grandpa, great grandpa (or maybe grand uncle canโ€™t remember) were idealist who unbendingly supported their causes even if it was a losing battle. It brought them great respect from their peers but then one bad break or decision and then weโ€™re back to penniless dirt farmers in shithole Texas.
Having grown up in that LBJ took the path of what is the best possible outcome for him personally, politically, etc.
To what degree he actually cared about things like civil rights, Iโ€™m not sure. But early in his political career it didnโ€™t matter if he supported it not. It wasnโ€™t going to pass in the 1940s/50s. But supporting his fellow southern politicians was huge for his career. So he did that. Later when he had more power and there was a chance to pass some small civil rights bills it was to his benefit to get them passed (and hurt him to not have it pass) so he used his power to get it passed. When he was president it was good politically and he had the power to pass strong bills. So he did.
He just fucked up vietnam, which to be fair, I think any president would have because it seemed like an easy win for any president that turned into a shitshow.

>Writing in USA Today, Darrell Delamaide has described Roberts as a "conspiracy theorist",[25] a charge echoed by Luke Brinker of Salon, and Michael C. Moynihan of The Daily Beast, who has also described him as partaking in "Putin worship".[34][35] Roberts has rejected the label and, in turn, described Jonathan Chait and Amy Knight as conspiracy theorists.[36]
>Roberts has described himself as a "9/11 skeptic" and spoken at 9/11 Truth movement events.[33][37][38][19] Regarding the assassination of John F. Kennedy, Roberts has written that "all evidence pointed to a plot by the Joint Chiefs, CIA, and Secret Service whose right-wing leaders had concluded that President Kennedy was too 'soft on communism'".[39] He has also stated that the Charlie Hebdo shooting has many of the characteristics of a false flag operation" motivated in part โ€œto stifle the growing European sympathy for the Palestinians and to realign Europe with Israelโ€.[37][40] The Washington Post noted that in 2014 Roberts speculated on his blog that Ebola originated as a US bioweapon and this was picked up by North Korea's state media.[41]
>In 2019, Roberts wrote in support of the views of Holocaust denier David Irving, asserting that "Irving, without any doubt the best historian of the European part of World War II, learned at his great expense that challenging myths does not go unpunished... I will avoid the story of how this came to be, but, yes, you guessed it, it was the Zionists".[42] Roberts added that "No German plans, or orders from Hitler, or from Himmler or anyone else have ever been found for an organized holocaust by gas and cremation of Jews... The "death camps" were in fact work camps. Auschwitz, for example, today a Holocaust museum, was the site of Germany's essential artificial rubber factory. Germany was desperate for a work force."[42]

I'm not sure what you're taking issue with. The Moorer Report is a real thing that exists and the article appears to quote it accurately. "The guy quoting this report is disliked and called a conspiracy theorist by journalists" is not a foolproof argument.

There times when conspiracy theorists are correct and respected journalists are lying (the Iraq War being one of the more disastrous recent examples).

The problem with the The Moorer Report is that it's not conclusive, since it was an independent report compiled over 30 years after the incident. Why should I treat it as conclusive evidence of anything? That would be a proof by example fallacy. Am I supposed to take it seriously because some retired Admiral was involved? Appeal to Authority Fallacy. Do better anon

>Why should I treat it as conclusive evidence of anything?

If by conclusive evidence you mean explicit documents authored by the Israelis detailing their plans to stage a false flag attack, I don't think anything like that is forthcoming (if they ever existed). Under that kind of burden of proof it's hard to state anything conclusively.
