Most Christians (and by extension a lot of religious personalities) never actually move beyond a preconventional reward vs. punishment kind of morality and so, yes, they take great delight in that phrase because it's actually the entire backbone of their faith/personal morality to begin with.

I am of the belief that most people, including non-religious people, take more comfort in the idea of Hell than Heaven. Getting some sort of reward when they die is nice and all, but most people want to believe their "enemies" will be punished after they die. It is a childish and frankly sadistic world view, but it is what it is.

When I used to be a Christian I always hoped for universal forgiveness and for God to save as many people as possible, including those who had wronged me. In fact, I often shifted the blame onto God for evil in the world by refusing to step in when it mattered. Every soul matters, so why let this continue? Heaven was a beautiful idea to me, a kind of blossoming of the soul after death through unification with the very source of being itself. This is true, some members of my family aren't Christian in any other sense other than they want people whom they don't like to burn forever.

I think quite a lot of converts, especially the ones who post here, are Christians purely for aesthetic reasons. Also why a lot of them are Catholic, in spite of them all being essentially sedevacantists. They like the imagery and the architecture and the hierarchy, any sort of actual practice is secondary to that.
