Christian ideas of sin, redemption, and messianic salvation are lifted directly from Judaism. Even the Christian God is, at its core, the Jewish God, merely reinterpreted. The New Testament is steeped in Jewish thought and constantly references Jewish texts. Early Christian rituals and practices were barely distinguishable from Jewish ones. Christianity's divergence from Judaism doesn't negate its origins; it simply marks the point where this Jewish sect evolved into its own religion. Strip away the later Hellenistic influences and gentile converts, and what remains is essentially a Jewish messianic cult that gained unprecedented traction.

In fact, many non-religious aspects of the Christian faith are simply vestiges of Jewish culture or a direct result of Jewish influences. Take Christmas, for instance: the celebration of Christ's birth is hardly a distinctively Christian tradition, as it mirrors the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah and the pagan winter solstice festivals of yore. Even most of the religious traditions we associate with Christmas - the gift-giving, the decorated trees, the wreaths and holly - are merely borrowed from pagan cultures.

Christians, they believe they are the body of the only true living God, and that they have godly authority to order creation as they see fit for their salvation.
