On this day exactly 80 years ago, the world's first use of a nuclear weapon in combat occurred. Now that the dust has settled, was it justified?

After the Rape of Nanking the Japs honestly deserved worse. Their feet were never held to the fire like Germany despite committing war crimes of a comparable scale against respective civilian populations.

Yes. They started and wanted total war, and they got it. Anything else is an exercise in mental acrobatics.

Who cares? You don't know anything about Japanese history before 1980 aside from this one event. You're a 30 year old man who jerks off to cartoons.

You might as well be asking of using tanks in WWI was justified.
Or Machine Guns whemever those were invented.
Or rifles.
Or cannons.
Or swords.
Asking your enemy to hold anything back to defeat you (when you have never once done so, thereby making it certain your enemy will neither) is actually childish.

If it was just some random base, it meant there would've been less (living) witnesses, and would've made it far easier for the Japanese government themselves to ignore or dismiss as just an aerial bombing, which the US had a very strong reason to believe they would've

Yes. It put an immediate end to the war, whilst simultaneously showing the world how dangerous atomic energy and Röntgen heated air can be when in contact with an ordinary urban setting.

No. Anyone who defends killing civilians on a mass scale is either Jewish or spiritually Jewish.
