Why exactly would Aspar support the Vandals? He had no reason to, he gained nothing from their continued existence, instead it was an active detriment to his standing as he as unable to deal with Vandal pirates. Both he and Leo worked together to fund and arrange an army to destroy the Vandals, blame Basiliscus for his incompetence. Not Aspar for an imaginary tie with a people he had absolutely nothing to do with.

The only solution was total Germ death. If Italy wasn't devastated by the plague and natural disasters they would've restored the empire for real.
