Even if you discount that, and assume the crowd wouldn't have treated Lot's daughters better than the male strangers, let's look at the options:
1) Two men get raped
2) Two women get raped

Which is worse and which is better? Neither. They are both equally bad. Choosing one or the other isn't worse or better.

I think people used to be absolutely revolted by fags so the story was more powerful. Now that everyone is brainwashed that anal sex with men is the pinnacle of morality, the story becomes unintuitive and confusing. Also, all fags are gay rapists. This used to simply “be known” by everyone.

Ezekiel 16:49 directly contradicts the notion that homosexuality was the primary sin of Sodom, even if it was among its sins (assuming the mob's sin is homosexuality rather than, you know, attempted gang rape).

The whole point of Sodom and Gomorrah, at least to my eyes, is that divine retribution will only be visited at the very final hour. In the chapter prior Abraham pleads for the city and asks God to not destroy it if even thirty, then twenty, then ten, then one righteous man remains. God then sends his messengers go into Sodom and save Lot from the city before destroying it. The urgency of the destruction of Sodom was evidenced by Lot being literally the only person worth saving from that city.
