The Red Army suffered 120% casualties in 1941 and STILL required Lend Lease to barely hold onto Moscow.
Everyone believed the USSR was finished, it’s a big reason why the USSR received Lend Lease because the US was certain they would go down without US help.
They were right. We know the Soviets offered peace and were considering throwing in the towel.
As late as 1944 Stalin was considering separate peace.
The constituent countries of the USSR to this day still haven’t recovered while Ethnic Germans in spite of 80 years of liberalism are more numerous today than they were in 1939.
Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Belarusians, still have not recovered their pre-war populations.

The Soviets dont really deserve any credit. They are just as culpable for starting the war, and during the early years of the war they attacked just as many neutral states as Germany did for the sake of conquest. Their little dance with the devil blew up in their faces and we're supposed to respect them for it afterwards. Even their advance on Germany and her allies in 1945 was also just a war of conquest.

The fact that they were among the judges in the Nuremberg trials, passing judgement for crimes against peace etc, is one of the greatest travesies of history.
