Bedbugs, like most parasites, are probably degenerate forms of an original design. Most likely they originally climbed trees and bushes for fruit instead of bedposts for blood. But if they're not, they serve the same ecological role as predators, just that they consume prey 0.0001% of a prey animal instead of 100% per feeding session.

Bedbugs were virtually nonexistent until third worlders spread them to hotels everywhere. Indian immigrants especially but also black people picked them up at some point and are infesting even office chairs. I did maintenance at an apartment complex and Indians have bed bugs and German cockroaches. I would dread having to fix a sink or a toilet because I had a nightmare experience where tons of roaches crawled out of a sink drain. We would have to spray the shit out of those units and also use an ozone generator and new paint to minimize the curry smell (which never went away)
