God is not all powerful
God not being all powerful is the only logical way a good god could create suffering. You don't need to be infinitely powerful to seem infinitely powerful to lesser beings.

Or alternatively, God is simply not wholly good. And we have little reason to believe God is wholly good. If he made us in his image, this implies we inherited his same idiosyncrasies

"The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference."

There is a strange comfort to be found in realizing one's own unimportance. Even most religion is meant to encourage at least some level of humility, so I think even theists can relate to this idea at least to a degree, although most religion still can't get over the hill of the idea that God will give you some privilege in the afterlife, but religion and hypocrisy pretty much go hand-in-hand
