Because they named themselves the United States of America. The only reason you pretend to care about this is because your backwards brown Spanish speaking shithole is irrelevant. You would know this if you had the money to travel abroad. There isn't a single foriegn nation outside the western hemisphere where the average person thinks about some beaner country when they hear the word "America".
Ever notice how Canadians don't have a problem with not being referred to as Americans? That's because it's a first world country full of White people who don't need to cope with being brown and poor by trying to bait and switch foriegners into thinking some favela in Brazil is what someone thinks about when they hear "America" or "Americans".
