I doubt she is a Sun god at all. She definitely embodies Venus. Including the whole getting inside the cave for several days, just like Venus doesn't show up for some time, until it reemerges.

Also, her reddish colors are associated to the reddish color of the dawn, not the actual Sun.

In South American tribes that were converted to Catholicism, for example, they tend to venerate Virgin Mary a lot and she is associated to Venus, naturally. They used to make blood sacrifices to Venus to appease her because they feared all the bad things she brought.

I imagine that at some point things get confused because offerings to appease the demoness end up looking like veneration across the generations who lose the original meaning for the process.
