Haplogroup E-M81 (“Berber”) is indeed common in North Africa, but it’s also found in southern Europe in small-to-moderate amounts. Having 55% E haplogroups in one study doesn’t mean 55% of Italians are “North African” — E is a broad haplogroup with subclades that have been in the Mediterranean for thousands of years, long before the Moorish period. Some E lineages reached Europe in the Neolithic.
