You don't read sources in translation, do you? You do know the original languages, right?

Imagine they got it wrong and this was just an ancient IQ test.

of course, this is why I exclusively read material from my own country and refuse to learn anything about other cultures. I know texts lose their meaning in translation so naturally they are better left unlearned and unread entirely.

yes, of course
this is why I learned, to absolute fluency, all modern western european languages
and classical latin
and modern and ancient greek (I also dabble in several tentative proto-greek reconstructions whenever I feel like indulging in a bit of linear b; for fun)
I am currently in the process of learning vedic, which should be easy enough, being indo european
I hope that in the next 50 years I will find the time to become fluent in ancient mesopotamian languages so I can finally get acquainted with the original version of the epic of gilgamesh
nothing gets lost in translation here. I am immune to propaganda
I am an 800 year old vampire and I am independently wealthy, btw

There is no point in learning a dead language unless you make your money translating that dead language to living languages.

why wouldn't I? the global lingua franca is English, so what's the point?

Some Latin I do but I can't read harder works.
I am not reading cuneiform and I never will because I do not have a decade to learn the most stupidly obtuse system of writing in the world with anything written in it.
