How did Germanic peoples go from untamable bloodthirsty barbarian warriors to tax-paying bureaucrats obsessed with legality and rules?

Christianity's influence on Germans was too short to have a strong influence on their behavior back then.

It took centuries of selective breeding + indocrination to turn them into Modern Germans.

We were always like this. Let me introduce you the concept of "Wergeld". Somehow and without any central authority or proto-EU-like Federation, the Germanics came up with Wergeld/blood money, while the Italians, Greeks and Romans even up until the Renaissance would engange in eternal blood feuds. It worked like this. Usually when you a Germanic man kills another Germanic man, the family of the victim would swear vengance. The women would make sure to educate their kids very early on about WHO wronged their family, WHERE they lived and WHY they must pay. You also have to defend your family. Even if your brother is a stupid idiot, who starts feuds with other families, you may critize him publicly for his retardness, but it would be unthinkable to just abandon him and let him fight out these feuds on your own.
However a way to circumvent all that bullshit is to pay blood money. When you kill someone, you go to his closest relatives and leave a certain amount of money with them. If the man you killed was a lazy NEET you wouldn't have to pay as much. If he was a valuable hunter and respectful member of the community, you'd have to pay more. There are actually established rules for this, which all participants would know about.
Tell me how this doesn't strike you as autistic.

Those tribes were Germanics, not Germans. Every German is Germanic, but not every Germanic is German.

Bro, we tried to become the world's only Superpower just 80 years ago. How are we not still war-like?

>>17913721
>continues to live in rural fortifications, instead of moving to the cities where the money is
>hunts, trains for war, feasts and feuds all day
>lets the big cities from Roman times be ruled by bishops
The secret to Europe's success was for the Germanic Nobility to never be fully civilized.

How come slavery is still legal in the US? Didn't they have a war over it and made a great show of ending it? There were anti-slavery states before the war, but afterwards, slavery became legal in all States and Territories, what's up with that?

What does it even mean to be Celt? I believe genetic research will enivitably find new answers for this. Celts were genetically the proto-Empire, before Rome and their settlements spanned from Ireland, Spain to Anatolia. And today we associate Celts with Irish, who aren't even that Celtic genetically speaking. They were on the fringes of the Celtic spread, not a good example of what it means to be Celtic.

Also genetically speaking even the Germans with 50% Celtic ancestry are full German. Because that's literally how Germans were created. They came from Scandinavia and then settled in modern day Germany. That is how Ethnogenesis works. Especially if the sons from Germanics keep out-reproducing the sons of the Celts. That is how Anglo-Saxons managed to genetically take over the British Isles. The male line of the Saxons was statistically more succesful than the line of the Celts. It doesn't matter if there is a lot of Celtic DNA. You don't mix DNA like in a mixer. It always has a story. And the story is conquest, hierarchy and dominance.

Because germanics are untamable bloodthirsty barbarian warriors that pay tax to feed the local warlord to protect you (or fight for him) and were obsessed with law as seen with druids.

>Brehon law was the law of a pastoral people, whose economics were based on a self-sufficient agricultural economy regulated by tribal and family relationships and where wealth was measured in terms of cattle ownership. There were no units of money and barter was the main form of exchange.
>It should come as no surprise therefore that there were specific Brehon laws dealing with trees. Under these laws, certain trees and shrubs were protected because of their importance to the community. Penalties were imposed for any unlawful damage such as branch-cutting, barking or base-cutting.
>There were four classes of tree, roughly mirroring classes in early Irish society. These were the airig fedo (‘nobles of the wood’), the aithig fedo (‘commoners of the wood’), the fodla fedo (‘lower divisions of the wood’) and the losa fedo (‘bushes of the wood’). Which group a tree belonged to depended on its economic importance, usually related to its fruit, timber or size when fully grown.
>The díre or penalty for an offence was a fine in the form of livestock. The penalties were graded according to the class of tree harmed and the form of damage inflicted. The díre for felling one of the nobles of the wood was two and a half milk cows, while the penalty for cutting down one of the commoners of the wood was one milk cow, and so on.

>Candidates for initiation would crawl into the caves to be reborn in the light of day. This theme of death and rebirth remains a continuing thread in the spiritual practice of Druidry throughout the centuries.
>This practice of seeking rebirth within the Earth can be seen around 3000 BC when great mounds were built in which initiates would sit in darkness waiting to be “reborn” with the light. One example is Ireland's Newgrange in Co Meath, where a shaft is oriented to the winter solstice sunrise, filling the chamber with light at dawn.
>This spiritual tradition continued four and a half thousand years later into the sixteenth century when Christian clerics transcribed the key text of Druid spirituality from oral tradition. The text speaks of “the spiritual and magical training of a Druid, in which he is eaten by a Goddess, enters her belly, and is reborn as the greatest poet in the land.”

Organization and coordination leads to much more effective brutality. It's a sign of advanced society. When you act soft and polite to the ingroup and brutal and ruthless to the outgroup you can collectively inflict significantly more damage and conquer more than you ever could if you were lawless and savage.

>The Gray Goose Laws Icelandic: Grágás are a collection of laws from the Icelandic Commonwealth period.
>one third of the Icelandic laws were recited by the Law Speaker at the Icelandic national parliament, the Alþingi

>A lawspeaker or lawman is a unique Scandinavian legal office. It has its basis in a common Germanic oral tradition, where wise people were asked to recite the law

Wise people, reciting the law and traditions from memory? Associated with semi-mobile "shacks" from which they dispensed law as needed? Like courthouses?

On this alone he applies all his power, while he allows his scat-lands [territories paying protection money to the Swedes] in other countries to go from him through laziness and weakness. He wants to have the Norway kingdom laid under him, which no Swedish king before him ever desired, and therewith brings war and distress on many a man. Now it is our will, we bondes, that thou King Olaf make peace with the Norway king, Olaf the Thick, and marry thy daughter Ingegerd to him.
