I think the author of Matthew wanted to create an impossible standard, one that nobody could live up to. Thus you need divine salvation (through Jesus).

Context is required. The advice Jesus provided during that speech was for how the people of God should treat one another in the Kingdom of Heaven.

If you aren't one of the people that is of God interacting with other people that are of God, or if you aren't in a place recognized as the Kingdom of Heaven, then that advice is not applicable.

But that means that many passages have hidden meaning and double meanings that are basically impossible to know, or that Mathew was wrong, because God cannot lie.

Buddy, the Author of Matthew thought God was two weeks away from returning and the world was going to end. This isn't a moral philosophy for the next 10,000 years. This is moral philosophy for tomorrow and maybe next month.
