Either Jesus matters or he doesn't. If he doesn't, then Christianity doesn't matter. If he does, then you have two choices, Christianity is corrupted or not corrupted. If it is still corrupted after two thousand years then Jesus failed or abandoned the project. If it is not corrupted, then it has an authentic lineage going back to that time period. If it got corrupted, when? And was a prophet sent to correct this corruption like in the Old Testament? Some would say Muhammad came as a prophet to correct the errors of later Christianity. Others would disagree. Those who disagreed we call today Catholic and Orthodox Christians.
