Cope Yankoid
/His/ HAS NEVER PROVED TO ME, a non american why the confederates were "bad" or any worse than the founding fathers of america
> in 1776 slave owning, traitorous aristocrats secede from their home nation and decide to create their own nation
>this is seen as good, is celebrated, and is seen as a truimph for freedom and democracy
>in 1861 slave owning, traitorous aristocrats secede from their home nation and decide to create their own nation
>this is seen as the worst thing ever
Why is it like this? I still haven't received a coherent explanation as to why slave owning aristocrats fighting against their mother country is good in one scenario but bad in another
>inb4 the american revolutionaries fought for freedom
the american whigs fought against their government because they weren't allowed to genocide red indians and because catholics in quebec were given equal rights. They were whigs of the 18th century not the hippy dippy liberals that post 1960 america has tried to portray them as. the confederates were just continuing on with that radical whig tradition of self governance
>y-you're a southerner
i'm british
I agree with both the revolutions of 1776 and 1861

>b-but the founding fathers didn't fight for slavery
YES THEY DID YOU SPASTIC
Lord Dunmore's proclamation that enslaved blacks who fought for britain would be freed is what led a huge number of southerners to fight for the revolutionary cause
Ergo the american revolutionaries of 1776 fought for slavery
And the americans also fought to expand past the appalachians, ensuring the racial genocide of the red man.
Why is slavery worse than manifest destiny genocide? I agree with both, by the way

None of that answers my question though. How can it be the "War of Northern Aggression" if the Confederates attacked first at Fort Sumter?

The north didn't want the midwest or the south to be settled because they weren't economically tied to them. England didn't want the US to extend beyond the Appalachian mountains so that it didn't get access to the fur trade. All the money from the midwest went to new orleans because of the mississippi river. Even spain wanted the river, and of course, france.

The midwest was entirely settled by southerners and most of the place names were called Jackson in honor of president jackson. Their money went to new orleans and not to the northeast, which they didn't like. New orleans was a sort of half respected geopolitical sphere because of its position along a major trade route. This is why when the union took them over so early in the war they were allowed to still practice slavery and keep shipments moving on the river. This is also why when they were taking over the lower south they were sending jewish merchants to buy/steal all the cotton they could get their hands on.

With the invention of the erie canal and rail into the midwest the northeast had effectively deleted the north/south travel of midwestern goods to the south. This was on purpose. In response to this the south wanted a new path of trade and development set up in an east west configuration with access to the pacific ocean to offset the monopoly the north had. This lead to a war of conquest against the mexicans to take territory in order to build this new uniting infrastructure. The north didn't like this so they decided to steal all the territory the south fought for and then elect somebody whose sole platform is that the south is never getting another mile of land in the americas and no uniting infrastructure would be built.

This was when south carolina seceded which paid the bulk of tariffs. A unionist an a couple loyal supporters then destroyed his garrison and went AWOL to go to Fort Sumter and squat. Lincoln then illegally sent troops there to sneak in in order to fight the South. The south knew this so they didn't let Lincoln's forces into the fort by bombarding them. This lead to the AWOL guy in the fort surrendering and not a single life was lost. Lincoln still claimed that he was attacked unprovoked however and decided to raise troops to invade south carolina, which prompted other states to secede

The North forced the South’s hand. They wanted to leave peacefully but the Northern army refused to leave. It’s like if if you let homeless guys stay at your place but when you ask them to leave they threaten to kill you.

>Merchants and Jews were anxious to cash in by illegally smuggling resources into the North. Cotton speculating Jews often followed the Union armies as they made their way south. They searched for planters who were willing to sell their lucrative crops for the lowest price out of desperation, especially along the Mississippi River. Since these planters were cut off from markets by the blockade surrounding southern ports, they were often willing to sell their cotton to these questionable speculating Jews. Even Union army officers were involved in helping Jews gain access to the cotton grown in the South. Many of the officers were getting extra money on the side by “greasing” the wheels of this illegal cotton trade.

>The War Department worried that money given to the planters would end up in the coffers of the Confederacy, which would prolong the war. A compromise was eventually achieved to allow traders who held a permit to buy cotton so long as they did not travel into enemy territory to purchase the cotton. U.S. General Ulysses S. Grant found it very difficult to enforce the rules intended to stop illegal trading of cotton. He wanted to keep the traders from following his armies as he moved further into Mississippi. Grant’s father, Jesse Grant, inflamed his disgust with the traders when he tried to obtain a permit for purchasing cotton for Harmen, Henry and Simon Mack.

>The Mack brothers were part of a prominent Jewish family from Cincinnati that owned a clothing business. Jesse Grant had agreed to take the Mack family to General Grant’s headquarters in Mississippi for 25 percent of the profits gained from the cotton they had hoped to obtain. General Grant was not happy with his father when he made this attempt to use his position as a military officer for monetary gain, and he was not happy with the Jewish clothiers who had tried to get a permit for purchasing cotton through his father. Grant denied the Mack family the purchasing permit and sent them back home. This incident may have been prominent in Grant’s mind when he issued General Orders No. 11.
